HELL NO!!!..I'd rather die first than see the Philippine flag being lowered and replaced by the US one.
Who says the Philippines has no good future? It's just that many Filipinos all lack initiative to do anything that could contribute to the welfare of all of us and of our country. Even if is only a very small deed.
Another one, Filipinos tend to think only for themselves and for what's only good for them. That, I think, is what primarily drives officials into endless corruption and other similar acts. Another typical example aside from that is the stopping of PUVs on non-designated stops. I know they must earn a living, but I hope they also consider the good things that would result if they do stop at designated stops (doing so would mean less traffic and more efficent travel). If we'd only open ourselves to the wider perspective around us and comprehend it justly, then it would really help us in appreciating what we've got.
Those are only a bunch of problems and there's much more..I would be a long discussion placing them here.. |

Why would the Philippines join the USA... There's not any great reason as far as I know, but I'm not bothered if they do. |

Philippines is a free country and rightfully enjoys its freedom. No other country will own us or else the likes of Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto, Marcelo H del Pilar will emerge.
And if I am historically right, US was under British rule before. They got into civil war because Americans hate being dictated by a country far away.
So, Filipinos felt the same. Spaniards, Americans, Japanese make Philippines their state, but Filipinos rise up. |

I have mixed feelings on this.....While many of the problems that prevent this beautiful country from reaching its full potential would instantly be relieved......Economic investment would reduce poverty......
But I would hate to see my beautiful Philippines
"Americanized"
The whole American statehood hypothetical is academic because the Manila power oligarchy and the church would NEVER let it happen. As an American state the church would have to divest itself of all its business and political interests.
Like that will ever happen. |

Are the people of the Phillippines in favor of becoming one of the United States? Has a referendum been held in the Phillippines to determine the answer to this question? If they don't want to be a State, then certainly , they shouldn't be. If they do, let 'em in! |

I assume you are asking this question of Filipinos since that is their decision to make and their decision alone.
I am not aware of any great outcry among Filipinos for US statehood. Although, I assume that they don't have any objection to us spending our money there. Also, just to state for the record in case you are not aware of this, I don't believe that they are a US territory either (sort of an intermediary legal status). They are independent and they make their own decisions, right or wrong.
Also, even if they were to become a US state, I certainly hope we wouldn't try to teach them proper English. For those that do speak English, English teachers be damned, the way they do speak it, is music to my ears. |

I'd love it.
However, I think a few "undocumented workers" might drown trying to steal the jobs there.
Then they'd sue the US for unsafe travel conditions or something. |

No. The Philippines should remain it's own country. The U.S.
government already has too much influence with GMA in office. If it became part of the U.S. I think alot of the culture and beauty of the Philippines would vanish. |

First off you are assuming the U.S. Citizens would have an interest in making the Philippines a State of the U.S. and I do not think they do or would.
Puerto Rico has been a U.S. Territory for many years and the people within the Contenental U.S. and the majority of the people in Puerto Rico have no interest in making it a State. It took many years and a real push by the people of Hawaii before the U.S. citizens in the Continental U.S. were in agreement to allowing Hawaii to become a State.
We have enough problems within our own borders without taking on the responsiblity of a Nation burdened with extreme poverty, mounting terrorist issues and corruption. If the Philippines were a State we would be obligated by our Federal Laws to provide medical care, free public schools, old age and disability assistance, etc for all your people that is a burden I think most Americans would find offensive since we are having a hard time doing that for our own people.
I think in the near future you will find the U.S. population wanting to become more isolated than we have been in nearly a century. We have had enough of the Iraq war and getting involved in trying to bring Democracy to people that in many instances do not want a democratic form of government to start with.
The poorer people in the U.S. are saying we need to take care of our own before we take care of the World. The Middle Class are saying we are loosing our position in the economy. Both sides lay a lot of the blame for U.S. ills on illegal immigration and immigration in general. A lot of Americans are questioning since the hurricane hit the Gulf Coast several years ago and sections of New Orleans still lies in ruin why are we sending aid abroad when we need it at home. I do not think the people of the U.S. would even consider taking on the responsibility of another Nation. |

Yes I'm in favor of it!
If we were to be included as a US State then every facet of life as we know it would improve. The most obvious thing would be the infrastructure. There would be improved roads, traffic lights, etc. Corruption will be lessened and discipline will be better.
Agriculture will be subsidized and farming will be more vaiable than what we are getting for now. The list is too long. Everything will be better! |
