i could tell you what i did but i thought it'd be a little unnecessary if you currently have an issue to solve...
well my view is - law and psychology is a very good combination, particularly if you a a people kinda people. you know a person with people skills, psychology will come in handy.
i chose not to do masters straight after undergraduate because
1. it could just be an easy way out of getting a job
2. no use to keep studying and no practical experience.
masters is easy to do if you are the type that doesnt mind sitting 10 hours in front of comp and do your research do your thesis, presentations etc but again my view is, all theories and no practice dont take you very far in the future. you may spend another two years doing a masters full time and finish at the age of 25 and start competing with 21/22 year olds for new graduate job but WITHOUT an experience, now that is very discouraging to potential employers.
but if masters is within your contemplation, i suggest doing part time while at work. you may be lucky your employer could offer to pay you for it if you are really good :) lawyers, lol i doubt though... you dont need to have many post-grad qualification to be a good lawyer, and doing masters in law or even psychology or any other field (which you are allowed to despite having degrees only in law&psycho) may indicate to potential employer that you are going to ditch your current job for a better position or in a completely different profession altogether. now, i may sound very negative, but do give it a thought. ask yourself at the end of the day, what do you want to achieve,
heh some people (especially China chinese) do masters in australia to fulfill requirements for migration purposes.. you may consider that but again, i ask that you consider carefully what you intend to achieve within a certain timeframe.
i personally wont go for masters straight after undergrad.
in the future, perhaps i may :)
good luck! |

Hmmmmmm... are you planning to do a degree or currently doing one dear?
Frankly-speaking, I didn't really perform well in school during my early days... Was badly affected & traumatised when I knew my parents was going to divorce (...now they are still together... happily together.. heheee.. too old to quarrel anymore...)
I took the road less travelled... From a depressed nobody to a determined individual...
I have a Bachelor in Social Work from Monash University & a Bachelor in Counselling from Edith Cowan University (..taken from Social Service Training Institute..)
In this competitive and evolving economy, it is good to diversify our knowledge and skills... Interestingly, I was a Honours Roll Diploma Business student but didn't end up with a degree and masters in Business... Discovered my 'life calling' in social service much later in life and has been pursuing it eversince :)
As long it enhance your skills and abilities and not just knowledge, it is worth the journey to pursue :)
*Not everyone who has the knowledge can performed :) ...This takes experience and on the job training too... |

I finished my double degree in Business (Accounting) & IT (Information Systems) maybe 3 years ago? I'm currently building up on my work experience and in a couple of years time, I'll start to seriously think about pursuing a masters degree (most likely a MBA). I'd like to work whilst studying for my masters but I'll have to look at what the workload's like and what the duration of the course will be before making a decision on that.
With regard to doing a masters degree straight after completing an undergraduate degree (without working part time in the relevant field), it's not really a good idea because employers often think that you're over-qualified for entry level positions and that you don't have enough experience for higher level positions. Also, there is a view out there that people who go straight onto their masters degree are those people who didn't do well enough in university to get a job with just their undergraduate degree. |
