I'm planning on travelling there in sept and not sure what to bring. Any ideas on the one must have item?...

Are you cereal?

As a white man, If I visit the Phillipines, will I be safe or will I become part of someone's salad?

Whether you will become palatable as to be part of the local cuisine depends largely on your attitude not your skin color. This simple rule applies everywhere, even in other distant galaxies.

Clara, the Clairvoyant
Philippines is not a jungle, my friend and Filipino are not savages... You are safe...

Ian W
The vast majority of the Philippines is safe, however there are certain parts of the Philippines where being white is a sure fire way to be abducted, killed or mugged. There are parts of the southern areas of the Philippines and SE regions that are very unsafe for tourists and even the press.

In general avoid the slum areas, especially at night, do not provoke fights or talk down at the locals, remember many of them are so poor that a few hundred dollars is a fortune. Dress down while there, no flashy jewelry, clothes or camera, do NOT flaunt your apparent wealth. Remember the national average wage in the Philippines is USD $5 per day and in some areas it's as low as $3-4 per day.

There's a lot more I could tell you, but you really should do your own reseach.

You will be as safe as an endangered species. Just don't go prowling in unfamiliar places without a trusted escort to guide you around. Like your kind (endangered species), it is better to be on the lookout for hunters who prey on complacent victims.

lol. funny q there .... but no., you won't be part of someone's salad. No one would dare waste white meat on a salad. An ingredient in steak tartar maybe since white men are so rare here.

Please come visit us my yummy friend!

=)

You are generally safe regardless of what color you are. It all depends on which part of the country you are going to and which activity will you get yourself into.

Philippines is a relatively safe country to visit. Of course there are areas where one should steer away from, as a white man like yourself or if a you are a foreigner in general and that would be the south of Philippines. I would make sure to visit the main tourist destinations within the philippines such as manila, cebu, tagaytay, and boracay.

Coy
Come to my island in Basilan and you will be one of the condiments for corned beef.

Depends where you go. I wouldn't try Jolo but everywhere else is fairly safe - probably safer than many American cities.

The worst "pouncing on" you could get, as a single white male, is from the girls who provide additional entertainment for a fee... if you see what I mean. But that's only in certain areas.

Filipinos are proud of their country and will warn anybody, including strangers, about any dangers - eg "don't go down that street". Don't get involved in any gambling (except high class casinos if you must) and make sure taxi drivers use their meter.

It's fairly safe here. Just don't go alone unescorted for the first few days until you are familiar to the place.

Cereal is any plant of the grass family yielding an edible grain, as wheat, rye, oats, rice, or corn.

Now, since you admit to being a "white man", you are, therefore, neither cereal nor any edible part of a salad mix. The same goes for this Answerer.

In summary, you should not fear becoming part of someone's salad anywhere you go, unless of course you run into my friend, Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

❤Pin]{alici0us❤
Depends... There are some places that you might not want to go to there though. Just make sure you wouldn't be by yourself.

you'll be safe as long as you stay in places where filipinos would be safe too - public, well-lit places, malls, parks, etc. avoid going to places that would be the equivalent of ghettos in the states.

besides, being a caucasian, you're probably 5'9" to 5'11" and weigh between 175-190 pounds. the average filipino is 5'5", and weighs in at around 140-150 pounds. so unless you run into a broke crackhead with manny pacqiao's fighting skills in a dark, deserted alley with no one else in sight, you'll be safe.

have fun while you're here!

Mr.Troglodyte
If you are not careful you will be eaten as a main course...they love the white meat...dark is too tough. And if you have a few extra pounds that is best because then they don't need to buy cooking oil...

This is not a joke as a matter of fact I was killed and cooked last night and was on someones plate all night long, before they fed the rest of me to the dogs...

NOT!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I had to do it. :>)
