Well, not a parent yet. But if I am the child?
hehehehe.. I will pray...
Parents will always be parents. They can't let their child feel down. Be ready for "pangaral" though, it is a natural thing because they love you so much. They want your future to be the best among the best. They work their ****s so hard to be able to send you to school and not just to fail your subjects "Kesa isa o dalawa man yan". Be ready. And say you're sorry and won't do it again. |

All I remember is that at one point I failed to keep my place in the top five of the class for a quarter grading and my Mom spanked me. 10 belt lashes! The good thing was that I had a mini skirt on. Being denim, it was actually not a pain in the *** =))
I don't know up to what extent does your parents have expectations from you. My parents have higher expectations of me, they'd probably throw me out of the house if I had a failing grade =)) And ultimately, you know it's only your fault, remembering the nights you chose to sleep or party instead of studying. |

I would ask myself first, what went wrong.... am I a good parent, am I too strict or too lax? The problem today, most parents are on denial that they are partly to be blamed. |

I will try to approach my child with a psychological effect to keep them from feeling pressured and get to the root of the problem.
Depending on the age. Some children can not deal with pressure yet. |

berate and beat them up!!!
"you! *&^%$#$ don't you know that i labor day and night overseas just to send you to the best school! &^%$$##! and yet you got this failing grade!!! *&^$#@@!
I might say that by instinct, as I got the same tongue lashings during my time (he! he!)
seriously, any parent would really be upset. especially those working hard overseas just to provide their children good education.
speaking as a parent, I would consider it also a failure on my part. Failure to guide and coach my child.
Sending one's child to school equates to an investment.
Aside from money, the parents should also invest their time and effort guiding and coaching their child. Even if they are already in college.
From my own experience- my parents may not be the smartest parents but they always tried to help us in our school works and assignments. I didnt turned out to be the smartest but their investments paid-off when I finished my studies. |

I am not a parent, but if that happened to me, my parents would be outraged and ground me until I get it to an A. I have very strict parents when it comes to academics. I am required to have all A's, and if I get a B, I can't use the computer for entertainment purposes and I can't watch TV.

1) Naturally, your disappointment will show.
2) Talk to your child regarding factors that resulted to failing grades. Be open minded on this matter.
3) You will need to closely monitor and support your child in the comings days or months.
Good luck. |

I saw how my daughter was devastated with the failing grades. I could only comfort her and assure her things will be fine. It's not the end of the world. God's plan is to prosper us and not to harm us. She just have to do her part. Things happen for a reason. |

I did the following when my child showed me his report card with a low (but not failing) grade:
1. Try to be as calm as possible.
2. Do not reprimand the child.
3. Find out what was the problem. Offer any help to make the child improve his grades.
4. Make him feel that you are always there for him for his school works and projects.
Low grades are results of lack of interest in school. Lack of interest may be a reflection of child depression. As a parent, always find out the cause for his low marks and assure the child that you are his best friend who is willing to help him out. |

once my brother came home with 6 failing grades...my mother maintained maximum tolerance till he graduated from highschool... in the university he was declared a genius of the arts... you should take a closer look why he failed the two subjects and help him in that area... nonetheless, applaud him for his EFFORT in studying rather than the grades itself. kids who are valued based on their efforts (self-esteem) tend to succeed more later in life than those kids valued only for the results (goal) they make. |

i'll teach him a lesson. no psp, ps2 or any computer game for the whole 2nd sem. no barkada and going home late, limited TV (news only). wash the dishes, clean the house, feed the dog, do the laundry, take out the garbage, - he he he i'm only joking. shouldn't be that harsh. |

Depends on what age you are.
I'm not a parent but I know what happened to me.
If you are in young age, about 7 - 10 yrs old, your parents will help you on studying and get a pass in the future.
If you are in age of about 14 to 17 yrs old, your parents will either ground you, slap you hard in the butt with their belt, take away your allowance/games/etc., or worse, kick you out of their house (this happened to my friend; he went to his grandma's house crying and he later apologized to his parents and tried to do better).
If you are 18+, you could do whatever you want, they don't care. |

In case my child has failing grades, the first thing I will do is I will talk to her about the subject and would like to know the reason behind that. I will talk to her like a friend so he will open up more ( apply child psychology) , I will not verbally abuse him or punish him as it will add to the injury. I will also go to school to talk to the teacher as I want to know his/her feedback and discuss the issues if any and the best thing to do to improve my child grade.
In this situation, I need 2 versions- my child version and the teacher's version for verification so I will be heading in in right decision.

Show some cause for concern but dont over do it otherwise it may break the childs confidence. If the child has worked hard do not critsize them if they have been lazing around then talk to them. At the end of the day which chlid want to fail? |

well you should not over react :)
you should spend some time trying to help your son/daughter learn what he/she needs to learn :] |

Encourage them to talk about it with you and explain to you what they find difficult about the subject. Hire them private tutors to help them catch up (not because it's bad because they failed, just because you want to help them so that things are easier when things get harder.) Make sure not to criticise them for their failure. If it's because they're doing too much extra-curricular activity see about limiting that to one sport and one music lesson a week. Weekends they can have fun.
If you can't afford a tutor see about organizing with their teacher extra lessons or help for your child. It is important to nip this in the bud now-the further your child gets behind the harder it is to catch up.
I would not recommend teaching them yourself unless you're very confident you can do it without driving a wedge between you and your child. Getting a tutor means the child has someone to help them who they feel is not judging them and also helping them.
Language is very difficult-getting them involved in classes outside of schools where the culture is explored as well as the language might help them get involved. Maybe you could go to classes together? This could be a good bonding exercise.
Be patient, don't be harsh and above all remember that nobody is good at everything. :) |

I hope it'll not be a form of intrusion if I answer this even if I'm not a parent yet.
If my kid would show me a failing grade, I would most likely lose my cool. No one would want to have a failing grade, whether you be the child or the parent of the child, even the teachers giving out the grades.
Its typical to see parents going berserk for red mark sightings, but somehow parents need to consider too, how are they handling their kids for that matter. Does the kid/s have had enough attention so they can be encouraged to study? Or if in case the kid is quite "slow", are parents open enough to send them to special school or remedial classes.
Problems are not like wild mushrooms that grows anywhere. So does solutions. One way or another, one party could come up with solutions and changes for better results. |
