Can I chat in Y!AM?

I don't understand clearly what is chatting.

Can anyone tell me how do Yahoo or the 'kaypo'
consider our question as chatting?

I have no idea. But then, when I asked the other day, " What you ate for dinner". The question by itself can be considered as a chatting question depending on how you want to look at it.
But some of the answers I received could also be considered as educational, informative and most important promoting our local food outlets for additional business.
For example, Zeeda said, she and her family went to "Secret Recipe" for dinner and she ate this and she ate that and the food was fantastic. In addition, she ordered Moist chocolate cake for dessert as take-away.
Another answerer. said she and her hubby went to "Mama chop, Papa grill" and confirmed that the food served was just great.
To me, these two diners and their respective families are giving me tips and to others as well, thus promoting business and
If the kaypos think otherwise and prefer to live inside the coconut shell, there is nothing much I can do. Too bad for all the kaypos.

What they consider chat is the set of statements one would make in a casual conversation, neither asking for nor conveying significant information.

Though the language here is English there are cultural differences. In some countries, if I ask 'How are you?' I am prepared to hear some lengthy details. In other locales a 'How are you?' has about the same status as 'Namaste' in India. It is just a noise to say "I recognize you as a fellow sapient.'

So someone asked in Y!AM 'How was your weekend?' and got their question deleted, because the cultural frame of reference is probably Sunnyvale, CA, where I live and where 'How was your weekend?' is similar to 'Namaste'.

So the Y!AM administrators, as they say in their guidelines, think questions should be based on knowledge sought and answers on knowledge shared, and some of the answers I have seen posted to your poll questions do not qualify as that. Some are chatty but have the redeeming virtue of humor, and some are plain abusive. While an abusive answer should not affect one as advanced into mature thinking as you, I report those because there are people as young as 13 reading the questions and answers.

So, no, you cannot really chat on Y!AM, but I would be happy to show you how to set up a room on SILC (Secure Internet Live Conferencing) for that purpose.
