I think you will be able to get away with it.
I was at a temple once and there was an old war hero kind of guy. He had a knife with a blade of 12 inches. The only concern at the time was that they didn't want him to enter the temple with it, plus also you can buy crafted knifes with much bigger blades.
To be honest you can try phoning up the Chinese embassy and asking them but like others said hand luggage is a no no but cargo luggage is ok. And then you get here only take it out with your fishing gear. |

Don't bother trying to carry one with you. Just buy one when you get there. It will alleviate any troubles you might have with Customs. |
