- Korea is the home of TaeKwonDo [태권도 pronounced Teh-Ggwun-Doh].
- Korea is also famous for its fermented foods such as 'gimchi' 김치, which are spicy fermented cabbages and vegetables.
- Nothing can catch up to Korea's quality ginseng. It's simply the best.
- Korea's advanced cellphones are also praised around the world's technological market as well as some of its cars in the motor industry. (remember Samsung, LG, and Hyundai are all Korean companies.)
- Korean dramas, movies, and singers are immensely popular throughout eastern Asia, and that is referred to as 'hallyu' in Korea. It describes the 'Korean wave of entertainment'.
edit: I also agree with some of the other users here.
You can pick one, cheers.^^
(v-man: My nationality is American and my origin is Korean. I answered this question from a Korean point of view. I hope you can understand the connection. What's the problem? It's okay to disagree with what someone says, but every time I answer a question, you habitually attack me with your words/supposedly slick comments that don't always pertain to the question, but just out of the fun of humiliating me (and don't forget the thumbs downs).. I hope you had enough fun harassing me..unless you refuse to accept that word and start asking questions about harassment bc you feel offended.. I thought you blocking me and me blocking you was enough, and I never asked questions or wrote answers that related to 'you', unlike someone.. I am tired of this war of words.. I hope Boom Blatz is reading this as well..
What are you guys..some tag-team champs of the Korea Foreign Land.. Just back off a little. You're crossing the line here.
What can I expect to see next in the Korea travel section: questions about nationality and origin for the purpose of venting? (I beg you; no.) fyi, it is actually possible to change nationalities.. and again, you call yourself an educator? (-rhetorical question)
Boom Blatz: it's spelled 'modicum' and Hines Ward is half Korean. He was born in Seoul and moved to the U.S.A when he was a toddler. do some research..)
- sorry fallout_gurl for having to see this. |

Of recent origin, women's golf has become a subject of pride, I think, for the Republic of Korea (South Korea). The primary contributor is Se Ri Pak, who has had much success on the women's pro golfing tour, and I think is regarded as a role model for aspiring Korean golfers who are women.
Other Koreans who have had much success include Mi Hyun Kim, Seon Hwa Lee, and Jeong Jang. One notable fact about Ms. Kim: earlier this year she donated 1/2 of her winnings from a tournament she won to the relief efforts in a small Oklahoma town that was devastated by a tornado. She had never even been to that town and did not know anyone from it. Wow...
If you go to www.lpga.com, you can see many Korean names there among the players. |

I will give you three:
1) a rigorous public education system - high school students generally study until 11pm each night or later
2) soju - a cheap, but strong distilled rice wine (the main ingredient is rice --- not sweet potatoes) --- keep studying
www.trifood.com/soju.html
3) national pride - during the World Cup, even the Korea matches that began at 4:30am, you couldn't spot a Korean not wearing a red T-shirt and supporting the team. They filled stadiums watching on big screens and bars throughout the country. I don't like soccer, but even I got caught up in the fever here supporting the team. |

Korea is famous for their Language. It is highly developed and they are very proud of this ~ also, it uses an alphabet, unlike other Asian languages. In Korea, there is a special day called "Hangul Day". The famous person associated with Hangul is King Sejong who first drafted Hangul many centuries ago. Hope this helps^^
edit to a post on here:소주 (Soju) is not solely a rice wine. Its main ingredient is sweet potatoes, even though some companies use grain. 막걸리 (makgeolli), is made from rice. Just a minor correction....
Also: Why do people think they can rip apart someone on the internet.....is it fun to act tough in front of your computer screen? Opinions are great.....but, should we not just do what we are supposed to on this site...which is help people with questions they have? What the h*** did Gaya do? Because she said she is Korean? Her answer is probably one of the best on here.....so, why not praise her for a good answer, not attack and insult her? ........
--------------------------------------...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soju
Read the part that states: "Soju is sometimes mistakenly referred to as "rice wine"
And further to what I had said.....I said that Soju is not "solely" a rice wine, that it can be made with rice (a grain)...or other ingredients (such as sweet potatoes). |

The Korean War (1950-1953) was the first major UN action.
Korea had the first armor plated ships, although I am not sure many people know about that, so it is not exactly famous.
1 in 5 container ships on the seas are made by Hyundai.
Koreans are fiercely Nationalistic. Anyone in the world that has even a modicum of Korean blood is celebrated as a hero if they do something good (likes Hines Ward).

What is with all of the bickering? Are you trying to show that "Koreans" are famous for being petty and spiteful?
Just answer the poor girl's question and knock off the bloviating.
By the way, everyone's answers are all pretty good. |
