Lucky Charm

Can one have multiple faiths?

I was born and raised a Catholic. I still go to mass on Sundays and days of obligation. I also attend a weekly Born again Christian service. I am part of the Law of Attraction group and believe in "The Secret". I consult a psychic/tarot card reader regularly and am attracted to New Age. I am fascinated by Buddhism and have been inside a Hindu temple several times.

Yes, apparently you can.

You can have multiple religions; but, there is only one faith.

Faith in God.

Only you and God knows where your heart is, and what your Faith is.

I once heard my Devout Catholic Grandmother say that she wanted to go to a born again service because she wanted to be with other people praising God, and Jeses. She wanted to be part of God's Mystery on earth.

I was young and at the age of about 12 or so, I had been to many churches and groups. Born again, Revival meetings, Baptist, etc. Not because I was searching for a answer, or was unsure of my faith, but because I wanted to be with others praising God.

Around the age of 12 I asked my Catholic priest a question, perhaps rude, but he gave me a very good answer so I'm glad I asked. I asked my priest, I said "Father are you born again". My priest looked at me and asked me a tough question, and said, "what does that mean". I thought and said something like "It means you accept that Jesus died for our Sins, that he is your personal Lord and Savior, and that you accept him into your heart and your life". Father, smile and said, "well then, yes, yes I am".

I enjoy learning about religions, and have no shame in experiencing God's wonder anywhere he may share this. I love to hear the songs of praise in churches, and to see the message of our Lord where ever it is. God is Real and so I belive in him. I know I'm Catholic because I belive in the Nicene Creed.

faith is a personal relationship with your saviour. other sects or denominations or practices may interest you, but what is essential is your relationship with the ONE Almighty Father...

and, it would be for your best interest if you focus on one and only,,,

I am not one to condemn you but, isn't it wrong to be serving two masters at the same time (in your case, several masters)? If you have a strong faith and believe in the One true God, you will not be going to different churches of different faiths or affiliations and be actively participating in their activities. If you are confused as to which faith or religion to follow, ask God for guidance and enlightenment. As to consulting psychics or tarot readers, I am also guilty as to have done that in the past. However, I have renewed my faith in God (Jehovah) and will trust no one concerning my life and my fate. I hope in time God will guide you to the right path.

"No one can serve two masters."

You might as well create your own system of belief or religion for that matter

I believe in one God. As for you, your faith can only be dictated by you alone. You can pore over all religious beliefs and determine which one attracts and see what works for you. Yeah, I've seen that "Law of Attraction" cd just 3 days ago. For the whole viewing time I can only think of Paolo Coelho and The Alchemist. “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it"

There is nothing wrong with learning about other religions and faiths. I personally think learning about the practices of others helps many strengthen their own faith.

However when it comes to practicing other faiths, if one wishes to follow Our One True Creator, we cannot serve two masters.

Think of it this way, while talking to people is part of life (learning about other faiths). Would you be ok if the person you are dating or married to is having physical relations with anyone other you? (Trying to practice two or more faiths)

I doubt you would like that. (not many people truthfully say yes if they really care about their partner.)

Why would Our Creator feel any differently?

Either we follow The Father, Son and Holy Ghost or we don’t.

As I said above learning about different faiths is one thing, trying to practice two or more is something very different.

May Our Creator watch over you and your family.

It's not the religion that can save you... it's your faith...

Ω allan y
the chinese are quite eclectic on religion. it is not uncommon to see one altar dedicated to a certain religion and as you face the other corner to see another altar for another religion.

as a catholic, you must only follow one faith. either you are a catholic or you are not. no in between.

I am not a religious person but I do believe in the existence of everything. My faith is in myself to be good to others and harm no one....

You can only have one faith and that is Yourself. There is nothing wrong of exploring the differences or the similarities of each religion provided that you will show great respect to all of them.

I visited Catholic churches, Buddhist temple, Hindu temple, mosque (near my office when nobody is there) and reading occultism books but it doesn’t confuse me to where I give strict attention. It only signifies that I have an open mind for everything.

Believing in one religion will only result to being a narrow minded person. One who will talk about how great his master is and how bad the other one is simply ignorant.

Lucky Charm, here's an advice.

Search what your heart desires. Search spiritual truth. Read the scriptures well to gain understanding. Search for guidance from the Holy Spirit or someone who is learned about the bible.

Yes, I am a born Catholic, and also attending Christian fellowships prayer meetings. I have a book of Mormon as same as Quoran. As of now I am still searching for the right religion, but not found it yet. But no one can stop me from believing at Jesus Christ and God the Father.

Whatever makes you happy man. Just as long as you realize that you contradict yourself =p

I don't follow any religion. I don't believe in god. I don't believe in superstitious practices/beliefs and supernatural events. But hey, it's a free country.

Eighteen Ten
You're obviously uncertain of your faith you don't know where your belief lies. These religions have different teachings, therefore different "truths". But I admire your enthusiasm.

You can't have multiple faiths. In my opinion, your christian faith (or whatever you first believed) is visibly shaken, as you have doubts to whether it is the one true path to take. These curiosity urges many to expand their knowledge on other beliefs. And maybe they will get swayed by these other beliefs, and start believing in them.

But in the end of the day, you still hold onto one faith.. but you are either doubtful of it, or uncertain if you keep the true faith.

Unfortunately, if you are doing tarot cards that goes very much against the catholic and christian religion. It says in deuteronomy not to do that stuff.

well if a person wanted to i guess. but alot of people wouldnt like it. but i guess only if you wanted to and it made you happy. so it depends on a persons point of veiw and oppinion i guess.

you can. If you really are an agnostic that believes that: "who knows?" and of course we dont really KNOW. Todays world is a confusing one. Just be a good person and try to connect to God in the manner that fits you best.

piogler
wel you can have your own religion but acept others and agree with their teachings..

there is nothing wrong... i am also a catholic been a seminarian for four years... my girlfriend is part of Bread of Life and i go to her congregation... i practice the breathing exercises of the Buddhist... I understand you only want to relate with your God in the different aspects of this world...

You can pick and choose different things from different religions (kind of like at a cafeteria) and put together an individual belief system that works for you. As others have pointed out, there are some contraditions in the ones you have listed here, but maybe you are cool with that.

no you cannot. but you can have an interest in other faiths. But it sounds like your aking up your own faith. good for you!

Bitter Guy
Yes. You can do whatever you want. Having multiple faiths however, means you are not faithful to your chosen "faiths".

*~♥Sophie♥~*
It's not really good to have multiple faiths. You have to only choose one, and stick with it. What's The Secret? But, anyways I only believe in God. I don't care if people believe in Buddah, but my friend says he's too fat and Chinese for her. How mean!!!! >:(

One answer: when one is searching, one can feel he or she has multiple faiths. Second answer: when one's heart (feeling or spirit) is leading, one can relate spiritually to multiple manifestations of belief. But as opposed to that whole approach lies first and foremost, reason. After you let reason step out in front, it will appear contradictions are evident. So to have more than one faith over time, you must fend off the reaction of reason. In the Christian faith, there is the matter of revelation that lies beyond reason. Martin Luther said, Jesus Christ is in the sacrament, but not like straw in a sack; it is a matter of revelation. Faith as most Christians see it does ask the modern world for belief in certain revelations passed down to us from ancient times.
