3 days is the max. I'm telling you from experience.
I'm half filipino, and I grew up on danish food really. But there is always rice on the table. My mom can't live without it.
Same goes for her friends, who are also filipinas.
On vacations, she can't last long. We were in france for a week, and, at the end of our second day, we ate at a chinese restaurant. Fried Rice.
I love those instant things too, the choco drink :P |

Not just in the Philippines, but Southeast Asian would always have rice when they dine.
Can we survive without it? Sure we can...like what DaneFil said, Filipinos would look for it and crave for it until they have it.
The longest I have gone without rice was for 3 months! I though I was to die! 2 months having packed salad in London, and 1 month trying to train myself to eating sticky rice in Japan. I lost a bit of my belly fat though!=P
Did you mean CHAMPORADO?! I just made some yesterday, I brought some here at work. There goes my food, hoarded by my colleagues while they voraciously finish it without even asking me if I want some. Since we are multi-racial in this department, they have been cursing their culture for not putting cocoa in their porridge. My boss is even cursing Edgar Allan Poe for not writing anything about it. OA!=P
***Nice to know that you enjoyed the Philippines. I cant wait to go back there myself.=D |

of course, we can. I can go on for a month or longer without it. it's just that food no longer taste the same, it would seem "lacking" something.
well, you can't blame filipinos. imagine being fed rice from the day you could eat up until you die.. hehe. |

Rice is one of the Cheapest & Affordable food that a Filipino can buy...
Because rice can easily fill up a Filipino Stomach for most of the day...
And rice is so easy to mix with other things like, Sardines, Eggs, Toyo or Knorr Rice Seasoning, Tuyo, Daing, Kamatis, Kape, and most of Asin or Salt... |

yes, we can live a day without rice. it's been 6 months since i had rice.
eating rice is not a tradition, it's a way of life. it is our staple food, you can do almost any recipe with it, besides, it is more affordable than potatoes and bread. just 1 kilo can feed a small family for a day, you can even stretch it by making a porridge with it. |

When I first arrived here in Florida the first time I had in my mind was dear god, I hope this country have rice same like from the Philippines and a rice cooker.
A day past by without eating rice and it occurred to me that I should have brought rice with me in my luggage so I could eat.
Anyway, no sooner I found my favorite rice and rice cooker that a day without rice is like a day without sex. |

rice is the staple food of Filipinos and also of other Southeast Asian countries. there are reasons for this:
1. rice is one of the abundant crops of the Philippines;
2. since our country has a tropical climate, it is easy to shed those carbs and energy and people tend to load lots of carbo so that they won't crave for food early. and rice is heavy on carbs. |

they can go without rice, not having sex for a day is what will drive them crazy.90 million people and still going strong. |

People from the South East Asian Region eat rice as their staple food. And most people from the Near East, Far East, Middle East & the North East Asia as well. Well, you can pretty much say the whole of Asia eat rice.
Although there are a good number of Filipinos who can go on days without rice, especially those that have travelled the world, those in a diet & those who cannot afford. |

it is not a tradition.it is simply because we are used to such measures.our country is an agricultural one.we depend on rice and agriculture for food.we often harvest in our fields.thus, our main food is rice.
but it is not just the main food.it is only a "side-dish" that you eat side along with a main meal(ulam),which aould be meat, vegetable, etc.
love that one too |

we can live without rice for a day, but since we're so accustomed to have rice on all our meals, our stomachs won't be satisfied, and it will take some time before we're used to not having rice everyday |

Survive a day without rice? yes. But it's a matter of satisfaction. I personally would not be fully satisfied with a meal if I don't eat rice. If I eat anything that's not consisting of rice and viand (whether it's a salad or a fully-loaded sandwich), then i call it a "snack". |

Well, they could if they tried. But trying is not really a Filipino tradition
And it's a national addiction - and really a part of being Filipino. In the 1970's we had a rice shortage and the government (even with martial law) was truly hard pressed to keep things in order while they got some emergency rice shipments from abroad. |

I am a Filipino, living in the Philippines.
For almost a month, I have stopped eating rice. That's true.
What I eat now were potatoes, carrots, bread, banana, hard boiled eggs, apples. Milk and fruit juices were the liquids I take. |

Rice is great. I like it.
It is an Asian country and is poor(when compared to some larger countries), so what do you expect? |

this is the true situation-
1. if rice is available in good supply we eat it 3x a day
2. if rice is available but we are on diet we try to stay away from it
2. if it is not available due to lack of money we eat whatever is available
3. if it is not available due to another reason we will survive too
we love our rice!!! |
