rightfromwrong: you obviously don't know right from wrong or truth from lies for that matter.
Michael P: it's quite sad when you decide your own erroneous agenda takes precedence over innocent people's lives
HA: your answer is very ignorant and cold-hearted, it's unfortunate you don't understand why. Apparently you don't even know the basics of the cause you supposedly support.
To answer the question, China has no reason to not correctly report the number of dead to the best of their ability. They are doing an exemplary job trying to recover all the bodies and hopefully save as many still alive as possible. My own extended family lives in Chengdu and Deyang, two cities located close to the epicenter, and I've just received word that they are all safe. I can't tell you how relieved I am. I hope for the best for everyone there. |

Thats actually a ridiculous question.
Of course the numbers they are reporting aren't accurate - unless they did a headcount per town - and they are too busy in the rescue operation obviously. True numbers won't be out for a while. Those are just estimates. |

It is a big quake so I am sure the information is as reliable as it possibly can.

Why would they want to lie. Its a natural disaster not one caused by man and it can only generate sympathy towards the Chinese as no-one is to blame. |

It will be impossible to know the full number of deaths as many bodies will be lost under the rubble, may they rest in peace... |

Can we be sure that this question is not coming out from ur rear end? |

Hello there

Yes, it is no reason to hide the number. |

Why would China want to hide the numbers? |

I can't believe the stupidity of two answerers. So much insensitivity to the pain and suffering of people. You should be ashamed of saying this. The death of a single person is always a tragedy, not just s simple statistic...each one of the people who perished was someone's son, daughter, father, mother, friend.
I would not wish something so tragic to happen even to my YA enemies..
And about your questions, why would the authorities try to lie about the number of casualties. Whether it is 10,000 or 1,000 dead, or 50 for that matter, it's no difference, it still is a tragedy. |

The figure is mounting and changing everyday. The rescuers are still working day and night looking for possible survivors. It's difficult to get an exact figure at this stage . Just bear with it for the time being. Thanks for your concern. |

Seriously, you actually think they would lie about something like this? |

I read Sichuan government announced more than 12,000 people died and 9400 people have been buried.

I hope China government don't change (decrease) these numbers later. |

At this early stage, no one can give an accurate number. We wish less death and more saved. |

Sad with those answers from deep-rooted bias toward China's authorities. Use your mind, please.
It's true that China authorities had been a liar for decades, for their own reasons. But things are changing since 30 years ago. They are more and more close to international practice. They have got a lesson upon SARS. This time they obviously made a great progress. I'm so impressed and surprised by their prompt, honest and professional response to this nature disaster. |

No. It's like in the United States with the WTC.
If we did tell them the real number of casualties, people would have paniced. |

Before any of you waste too many tears, remember that these are Chinese lying dead in front of us. Those Chinese deserve what they are getting for the way they have treated the peace-loving people of Tibet. The Tibetans can call this poetic justice!
I shall drink a toast over their bodies! |

They're such liars. I hear those "victims" were actually made of lead and melamine. |

I hope so. Those chinese deserve what they are getting for the way they have treated the people of tibet... |
