Can we just forgive others who breaks our heart, I mean genuine forgiveness?

I have forgiven the asker who went on a rampage lecturing me as if I had maligned her when I replied to her question on "communicating via email or phone". I did not have the slightest intention to do anyone any harm especially since I am new here. In fact I asked for pardon for my circuitous answer precisely because while I did not understand the question well, I still wanted to participate and answer what I thought was an interesting question. I call this baptism of fire, and now I know how I should deal with people here.

It is genuine forgiveness. I will continue to participate. In fact I starred one of her (the asker) questions.

I assure everyone you will not see any foul language nor a condescending tone in my answers or in comments to anyone who might answer my question.

if we talk genuine forgiveness,,we can forgive but it takes time to heal and forget.

Yes ofcourse, because if you still have some grudges in your heart the tendency is you cannot move on. It is hard to carry a heavy load from your heart. Let it go and you will truly feel the joy because forgiveness is the secret of having peace of mind.

Even though a person may forgive and reconcile there is always that nagging question lurking in the background which stops a total and utter forgiveness.

For something as personal as a heart. I beleive we are all responsible for our own hearts. That way you arent putting your heart's fate in the hands of everyone else.

you have to get rid of any bitterness in your heart, ask God to reveal it to you , & he will, repent of it, & then you can actually pray, "thy will" not "my will", & leave them in God's hands.

Go back to your knees if the resentment comes back or bad memories, go to the one who forgave you .. he'll fix it again. if you repent again of the bitterness,-grudge, against them.

it may take a while & a whole lot of prayer, but Yes , it can be done.

Your story is very appropriate, celestine. It is indeed hard to forgive our naysayers esp. since they have so much malice in their hearts but what else can we do? We can't let hatred reign supreme in our hearts for doing so we only destroy ourselves in the process. Let it be love (and forgiveness) instead. Thanks for sharing.

The point is we can always forgive but can we really forget about it?

I myself have trouble forgiving anyone who has committed the slightest sin against me. So never mess with me when I'm on my bad side, which happens 3x a week.

But there are times that i would actually tell the person not to mess with me or things will get messy. Well most of my friends and family members knows my temperament already so they know when to mess with me and when not to.

So going back to your question i still think that we should learn how to forgive coz we too might need to ask for forgiveness someday.

(I am trying to learn how to forgive others.. Its not easy so i won't say it is.. )

you should try your best to do so. having negative feelings for others affect us not only mentally and emotionally but physically as well. happy people have a certain "spring" in their demeanor unlike those with emotional baggage

Forgiveness is tough to practice when you first start, but it does get easier when you realize the benefits.

Honestly, if two people have a conflict, the one who just lets it go is free. The one who holds onto it will carry the burden. Why forsake his/her own happiness for sometimes years after the person who forgave has forgotten they even exist.

Revenge is a heavy burden. I have never met a successful or happy person who has not learned this.

For me, I can't say that I'll forgive,but I'll try to forgive and forget! Cuz isn't it painful if u keep it in your heart!

We can always forgive, time heals all wounds but we will always remember what happened. Like they say..the scars is always there but the pain will be gone..in time.
