to whistle at night could cause the wind to become stronger.

To play with your food could cause you to have a stomach-ache.

To have a black-and-blue mark on any part of the body without knowing how it was caused means that a spirit has touched you

If you cut yourself on Good Friday, the cut will take months to heal.

If you bbq or fry food on Good Friday, you will get black freckles on your face.

Don't go to a baptism when pregnant or the two kids will be enemies.

Don't clip fingernails at night or you will have a fight with your parents.

Don't bathe when you are menstrating or your ovaries will be damaged by the water.

If you are a virgin, don't sing while cooking or you will marry an old man.

If you eat bananas when pregnant, you will have twins.

If your baby is always sick, you must change his name.

If you see a monkey when pregnant, your child will be wild. Seeing or hearing about any animal will make your child resemble that animal.

If you dream of losing your teeth, a family member will die.

Don't sweep the house at night or you sweep away the blessings.

If someone leave the dinner table, turn your plate around or you will not have food soon.

Say a special phrase "Porya Gaba" when throwing away discarded rice or you will lose all your money and never have rice again.

Sighing while eating causes your spirit to starve. The solution is to force the person to eat a great deal of food immediately.

Don't kill ants in your house. They are a sign of a happy family.

All houses and vehicles must be blessed by a priest or they will be destroyed by the devil.

Pink eye can be cured with breast milk or with the first urine in the morning.

Virgins do get pregnant from swimming pools and public baths.

During a girl's first menstruation, she must be careful not to step in animal waste, or her mense blood will always smell awful. During the first menstruation, a girl should rub tomato on her face to ensure she always has soft skin. Blood from the first menstruation cures pimples if rubbed on one's face.

To keep spirits away from your home, one could have a piece of garlic and salt on the window sill

It is said that if a person dies, all of the house windows should be opened because the open windows would allow the deceased to depart.

Filipinos are unique not only because of their cultures, traditions, religions but also because of their superstitions. According to our ancestors, some of them were true. Whenever they see or feel something they always give meaning to it. They believe that they will get into trouble if they donÂ¹t follow or obey these beliefs. The following are some examples of the superstitions:

SHADOWS: Our shadow is our soul. People who think they don't have any shadow will be mistaken for a devil.

STAIRS/LADDERS: When you step on a stair or a ladder while asking for something it will be there.

If a woman walks under a stair or ladder she will not be married that year.

LIGHTNING: Lightning never hits the same place twice. Over the centuries people had believed that if lightning strikes, this is a sign that God is angry.

TEETH AND NAILS: If your front teeth have a big gap this is a signs of good luck. The bigger the gap is, the more likely you will have a better chance in life.

When a toddler loses his first tooth you must burn it, so as the toddler grown up, he/she will have strong permanent teeth. If a baby grew its teeth earlier than expected there is a chance that he/she will have a brother or a sister.

If you cut your nail on Saturday or on Friday,bad luck is on the way.

WEDDINGS: The groom can only see the bride inside the church on their wedding day.

The bride should not look at herself at the mirror or try on her wedding gown before the ceremony begins.

If your wedding gown was ruined or a ring fell, you're marrying an abusive man.

BIRTHDAY: If you were born at midnight, you will see the soul of your loved ones that have died.

If you were born in the morning, you will have a long life.

If you were born in the afternoon or at night, you are a lazy person.

If you were born in the morning, you will be a coward.

At wakes and burials, it is not good to wear red or green, as this will invite another death in the family. It is also not allowed to take a bath, comb the hair, eat rounded fruits, sweep the floor and do not let tears drop on the coffin's glass covering.

I know of only three not mentioned:
turning an unused dinner plate upside down,
walking through the woods and repeating "tabi tabi po,"
not washing your hair during menstruation.

a maiden who sings while cooking will marry a widower, a pregnant lady eating twin bananas will give birth to twins, and when one dreams of teeth falling out that means a loved one will die.

Saying, "tabi tabi po nuno, makikiihi lang po nuno" several times whenever you pee on mother nature like in trees, stones, plants, bushes etc. to avoid altercation with dwarfs and other "lamang lupa" who might be taking shelter there.

This one, I still practice even now whenever I come across nature and the need to pee.

during the new year, you have to jump so you'll grow tall...

wearing polka dots during the new year will usher in a bountiful year.

it is not good to take pictures of 3 people because the one in the middle will die.

These I know by heart ---

Not to make "walis" - clean the house - at nighttime
Not to "gupit kuko" - trim your nails - at nighttime
Not to "regalo" - give as gift - any kind of footwear

If you do any of the above, "malas ang aabutin mo" - bad luck will come your way.

If you give any kind of wallet or purse, "lagyan mo ng taong bahay" - put in some coins for good luck!!!!!!

actually i dont beleive in such superstitions, most people do in my country, they also have that sugar or some milk on the new car to bring good luck.

when putting money in your wallet it should head first(if i remembered it correctly *brain gap*) and open your wallet when a coffin pass you.

I heard from somewhere that if you sweep the floor at night, then you are sweeping the luck out your home.

I was always told that you have to bite the tip of your finger if you point out something at night, just in case you accidentally pointed at a maligno.

these are mostly my moms, she's illocano.

-don't put your purse on the ground or you'll lose money
-don't go to sleep with your hair wet, or you'll go blind
-if you step over a person, you have the step back over them again, or they'll have bad luck
-don't take pictures in threes, or the middle one will die
-don't sleep on your stomach or your parents will die
-if you receive knives as a gift, you have to step on them

then theres one from my dad.
if siblings have the same birthday and they were born a year apart, they will fight each other for their lives.
my dad had the same birthday as his brother.
unfortunately his brother died before i was born.

I'm not sure if this falls under the category of superstition but in our family we all practice it ---

When visiting a church for the FIRST time, say 3 Hail Marys and then make a fervent wish (of the probable variety type*) and your wish is sure to be granted.

*Examples:
I wish my mom would increase my allowance.
I wish I'd get promoted soon.
I wish I'd pass my Physics test.
I wish that guy would notice me.
etc.

No, I do not know of any superstitions for moving into a new house but, you might try practicing some Feng Shui, this is supposed to bring wealth, happiness, love & success. There are books on the subject.
