Yeah....unless they know perfect english and choose not to use it. If someone is just learning english, then I just think that it's great that they are learning another language. Most people only know one language. |

I can, I mean there's nothing wrong with broken english, I actually admire those that are learning the language, it is pretty hard and complicated for someone from a totally different country, with a different culture come here and try to learn our language, that's actually good (my opinion) =) |

I don't have any problem with that.
I'm not a very good English speaker either.
Unless that person talks bad English and act as if they're
really good at it, with the slang and all.
There's this guy I met few years back, he's a pure malay, but he said he couldn't speak a single malay word cuz he used to travel around the world. And when he attempt to speak malay to me he was like really struggling. Then I saw his myspace profile, and there was like a bunch of malay comments from his friends.
And also another guy, he's studying at NZ, just been there for a few months, and when he's back, people were talking to him in malay, and he will reply in English(his english wasn't that good, just average) or malay language that is so 'skema' and 'baku' (like those words that you can only find in text books, only beginners will talk like that) and worse, the way he pronounce the words is like an english guy trying to speak malay.
E.g.:
Guy 1: Weh, camne kau study sana, mesti best kan?!
Him: Yeah, agak seronok juga, tempatnya menarik dan saya tidak sabar untuk pulang ke sana semula.
Guy 1: ........... |

Well, yes, they are learing. I mean I am born and raised in Delaware (the state) and I deal with it all the time I got used to it. No I don't like it, you live in America, you should learn the language. But what can you do. |

Yes, absolutely. I'm an English learner and I know what none- native English speakers go through and how they feel when they have to speak to someone in English; in a language that isn't theirs; that is completely different than their languages. It's so hard to do so and I fully appreciate their effort to learn something that is new to them. They try their best to talk fluently and i always give them the time to say whatever they want to say comfortably. |

Its better for non-English speaking people to speak English (broken or not broken) than English speaking people who don't know a single word of other language. |

Well… I’m middle eastern, and though I can speak 4 languages, English is my first language because of my school and folks. I have noticed that a lot of people (English being their first language) take it for granted and abuse it by adding words that practically make no sense, are slang, and Webster Dictionary (2008 edition) doesn’t recognize them… but yet, people use them. Does it mean that they don’t know English?
Its how and what you want to hear that sounds like music to you…
Anyways, I’m always proud of people who try to speak in a different language other than their native tongue. At least they try…
Most American’s don’t get past their own native tongue let alone handle another language.. And if people have a problem, maybe they should try learning a second language … Arabic, Malay, french.... anything.. and come back then… I’ll respect them more.
Its easier to criticize others…just harder to understand how much better those are who actually try in the first place...
hats off to them who try and yet dont give up even after dumb ignorant stares and discouragement... |
|

hunny...
 |
i dont mind,i give them credit for trying.
anyway, language is the 2nd language,,,so u cant really blame them.
blame the education system.
we dont have THAT many committed teachers, and besides..
how can we become a better person if we dont make mistakes?
people who condemn others who speak broken english should be ashamed of themselves.
but then, when u speak broken english n others try to help u improve n u just coulndt care less,ur just plain arrogant, too.
but thats how i look at it.
=)) |

yes i do.. that what we call learning experienced.. well, this is Malaysia.. most of us accept English as a second language.. we're speak English not like all the time.. so, dont blame us for using broken English..

Actually it really depends on the situation...
If a child, who is still in the learning stage, I will streatch my hears out and try and understand; and at the same time correct the child if the need arises.
If a student who has got no proper learning background, I will also streatch my ears and if possible correct the student. Of course I don't go all over the place to correct people with their spoken English.
If a working adult, there are some out there who are really trying hard but still did not make it to the mark, give them some time to improve.
And finally... those I HATED MOST!!! Are those who knows some but still not that great.....trying to speak but choose to speak the ANG MO / BRITISH english... Most of the time I feel myself getting irritated and wanted to slap them across their face.
