I'm not Filipino but back in H.S. we had an Asian-American club and quite a few Filipinos were members. We learned from them the basic greetings...

Ka-mus-ta-ka = How are you?
Ma-bu-tey = Fine

If you listen closely, the language sounds alot like Spanish...mainly because the country was under Spanish rule for over 300 years.

ay=the "connector" of the subject and the predicate( "am" "are" is" "was"....etc.)

at= and

I'll give you a simple sentence:
"Ako ay magaling at masipag."

The sentence above means:
"I am good and hardworking." which is what I am.... hehe :)

lets eat - 'kain tayo' (pronounced as 'ka-in tai yo')

take care - 'ingat' (pronounced as 'ing ngat')

i love you - 'mahal kita' (pronounced as 'ma hal keet ta')

beautiful - 'maganda' (pronounced as 'ma gan da')

handsome - 'pogi' or 'guapo' (due to Spanish's influence)

tastes good - 'masarap' or masarap 'po'

if you're in a market and want to buy something but find it a little expensive, you say 'tawad' (pronounced as 'ta-wad') but dont use this in malls.. the sales ladies will look at you silly.. price can not be lowered in malls. :D
