Well, I keep my credit cards in a box with a combination lock and an incendiary device (road flare) with a combination that takes several minutes of twiddling to get to. I never carry them with me so if I see something I want to buy, I have to go home, to the freezer, and twiddle with the box for several minutes, knowing that if I make a mistake I am going to have to wait two weeks or so for replacements because those will be melted.
In the time it takes me to get the credit card, I am thinking of all the reasons I don't need to buy whatever it is. Usually, by the time I get there the buying impulse has spent itself and I close up the box.
When I really really need something I want to purchase with a credit card, then I go take one out of the box and take it with me, and I have several with low limits. I use one whose limit is close to the price of what I want to buy. For other purchases, I use cash.
Does it work? All my cards are paid off every month.
Will it work for others? I think each of us needs to figure out our own way of fooling ourselves. Mine is probably a little extreme. |

Not a one. I learned early never to buy crap you don't need, especially with money that's not yours. Not owing feels good. |

From Australia. I have one
Well, theres nothing inherently wrong with credit cards. I still use mine although I racked up heaps of debt during xmas. As long as you clear the amounts before interest kicks in, then its alright. But its the worst situation when interest debt is ballooning. Then it becomes an ugly cycle.
Cancelling them is an option (if you have too much). You can set personal limits on expenditure. It comes down to discipline ultimately. My mentality is, if I can't afford it, then how is putting it on credit gonna help? |

I have three. I'm not addicted. Two are primarily for emergency purposes, e. g., on travel.
I prefer to have others pay for me. Can I borrow one of your CCs? |

I only have one and I keep the limit at $500. That's all I need and I want to keep it that way because I don't trust myself not to overspend if my limit were higher or if I had more than one card.
I don't have mine for any one specific use. Sometimes I use it if I'm a little short between paycheques if I haven't been paid as much as usual in my previous payday, but I usually make up the money the next time I get paid.
The key is to keep the cards to a minimum and try not to have more than one or two. They're a good way to bbuild your credit rating, but they can cause big problems too!

currently 4..
cancelled the other 5 (as they start charging annual fee)...
i usually pay cash when i shop, only with credit cards if the supermarket, store or restaurant have rebates or discounts when we pay using certain credit card..
oh yeah, settles my online shopping too, though had some issues with air asia as the payment request didn't go through *repeatedly!* when i used maybank visa..
( works fine with cimb and citibank card though)
whenever i'm paying by credit card,i usually ask whether they have extra charges..
(yeah if you're paying by card, certain shops charge another extra 2 or 3% *i forgot* )
so far no problem and no addiction with credit card.. i strictly make it a habit to settle the amount before due date.. |

I have a credit card as I do a lot of internet shopping however I do not have an addiction to it at all... I hate using it. I think if you have an addiction it can be realy dangerous... and that you need to dispose of it... cut it up nd throw it out..... |

i have.... 5 cc's but only 3 are activated. i think i somewhat have a probem. slightly. well i have one charged up to $1,500 on a $2,000 credit limit and the other 2 are only like $300 a piece. the only way to stop it is to just cut 'em up and keep paying on them. |

i have the biggest problem w/ credit card, Its like i cant stop buying everything i love and then at the end of the month i have huge bill to pay! I have about six credit cards and my discover card i use the most and sometimes each moth it says something like 800 dollars i have to pay, (that not including other credit card payments i have to pay. All the stuff i buy is practically junk that idont even use) So this month my husband and i started to do this trick (its working until now, hpe it continues) he is giving me 30-40 dollars each week, that is for the grocery that ineed. (If i spend 30 dollars for grocerey that week i can save up the ten dollars and buy something i like) this way i would spend 160 dollars a month for home grocery also try to save up money from the 40s that i dont spend that week. It has been working very well, and im not paying high credit card prices anymore.( im saving a ton of money as well) (Credit card is only used for car gas now, which is about 250 dollars for the both of us for a month. |

I keep two, one for use and other in case the other one doesn't work. I think of it as this way, everytime I pay my bills on time I'm building credit! They also trick me into spending more than I need to:(
GL with your cards. There should be a national credit card cutting day! |
