More mindless non-sense. Not true. Did they also tell you Godzilla smashed down Tokyo tower? That's how much sense it makes. Most homes are too small to have sleep overs.

I think the bath thing you are talking about is public hot spring bath.
It's call onsen.
it is basically huge bath.
you pay small entrance fee & relax at bath.
there is washing place & big bath.you need to wash your self before
get in to bath.

it is separated for male & female.
unless very young children,no one can't enter to opposite sex bath.
country side of hot spring bath place has 1bath for everybody.
that case,you can have same bath with boy friend or girl friend.

I don't say everybody, but many of japanese ,especially if they are young.they don't mind taking hot spring bath with friend.
many people use small towel to hide genital parts when they are at hot spring bath.
it's is not always completely naked.
some place allow to wear swim suites.

and I don't think they sleep together in same bed.
I should say same FUTON.
on trip,with group of friends.they get hotel room just 1 room.
(many time,japanese style hotel,call"ryokan" more like sonbody's house style than western style hotel)
they sleep in same room,but not in same bed(futon).

japanese school sdoesn't separate boys & girls so much as much as
american school does.even over night camping.

it might be more casual than typical amerian thinking,
but japanese doesn't take bath with stranger at their house or sleep with friend.
it's only at public hot spring bath & hotel ( ryokan).

I'm japanese but no boy+girl friends will not bath or sleep together (normally). If they are really close, like if they're going out, it's okay if they choose to bath together, but it's not the same for friends because that's just disgusting!
Some people might do, like sluts or something, but there's no culture that we do that lol.

Traditional Japanese family sleep together on same floor. The floor is covered by tatami mat. Tatami mat is not bedding article but a part of floor. They have each own bedding. See the first scene of this video from 0:07 and you can understand everything.

I suppose your friends have talked about some dormitory, hostel, public bath or onsen, probably. Those facilities have big bath tabs like swimming pool. Of course, it is separated for each sex.
Most Japanese homes have small bath tabs. Each family member takes bath individually in turn. But sometimes cheap apartments have no bath tubs, residents must go to public bath.

In Japan, there is a joke that Europeans and Americans rarely take a bath and how dirty they are! - but many Japanese don't think this as joke.
Many Japanese can't imagine taking shower without taking a bath, even if many Japanese people today sometimes do the same thing.
I was also surprised to hear this and believe that Americans must be dirty and smell because they don't take a bath often until when I was a junior high student.
(and after grown up, I could aware it is ridicurous to think American people don't have a custom to clean their body every day. )

Please forgive them if they ask you "Is it true that you Americans don't take a bath often? Don't you smell then?" - this is another example for lack of common sense or imagination.

They're just like you or me

In traditional families they bathe using the same water but not at the same time. The order would be oldest to yuongest. Dad, mum older sis/bro and so on. I don't think they all sleep together in families, they would often have a room and sleep on the floor on a mat.

I'm not sure if they actually do bathe together though.

Different Countries have different culturistic values, which can make Certain things right to them that would not be right to you. But when you think about it, People in the U.S. Do weird things too, but that doesn't mean that everyone here believes that its right. Hell, there are even some things that my neighbor does that i would never think about doing. Doesn't necessarily mean that its wrong, we were just raised different. So im sure that there are people that bathe with their friends out there, but not just in Japan, Here, and all over the world.

I think they meant family. I had a friend that used to tell me him and his 14 year old daughter took baths together. I don't know how appropriate that is, but I don't think I could bathe with my son if he was 14.

Anyways, Japanese worry too much about school to have sleep over parties and such. Maybe a friend comes to visit, but they can't have like 8 friends in the apartment, it's just too small.

well, i would probally ask the people where they heard it from, and if they answer and it seems pretty convincing then i would probally believe them them. but don't take my word for it fully!
