Definitely. One of the best places in Asia to live in. The last remaining true democracy in Asia, of which 85% of the population are Roman Catholic, and the remaining 15% are Protestants, Moslems, etc. The country is composed of about 7,000 islands, the main 3 are Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. So fresh seafood is so abundant, that buying frozen fish and other seafood from supermarkets is almost unheard of.

Of course, the Philippines only has two seasons : wet and dry.
No winter or fall. The country falls on the "typhoon belt", which stretches from Guam to the Philippines, to Japan, Thailand, Hongkong and Taiwan.

So it's either bright and sunny, or raining cats and dogs. Which is not so bad, because the heavy rains effectively remove the pollution from the environment.

Like many Asian countries, the local traffic problem, specially in the Manila area, never seems to let up.

Been living in the U.S. for years, but nothing compares to the beauty and great food in the Philippines ... which is still "Home Sweet Home "for me!

yes... so far there are so many beautiful girls there and the most friendliest among Asians. been all over Asia and Filipinos are the only ones smiling even if there is nothing to smile about. and it makes my day looking at their faces. he he.

oh... try to hangout around bay walk (manila bay) and in makati in weekends... there you will see the beautiful faces of filipinas...

the only bad in Philippines is that there are bad politicians and so much pollution around.

Hey no offense Joshua but you're exaggerating it..

First of all, I travel to about 12 different countries (coz' of my dad's work) in Asia but Philippines is where i love most!

Sure, there were some poverty problems but look on the brighter side, dude. There were lots of terrific beaches and the malls here are the best! There were so many malls that wherever you are you could still buy cool outfits.

If you want some peaceful place and not worrying about the typhoons, go someplace in the Visayas or Mindanao. And the people are great. It's true that they were hospitable and friendly. They always make me feel at home. Oh this place is terrific.

And about the English problem of people...there were some who can't speak English fluently but can understand a little. Some schools (like mine) needed to speak English always. There are some kind of listing then making some work if will not speak English. And my classmates were great in spelling and speaking English. Sometimes i think they are better than my schoolmates in back there in America, who, were pretty poor in spelling and grammar. And the teachers are great. I love my classmates here, unlike in some other countries. And one more thing, in some countries they are recommending professional Filipinos (e.g teachers, nurses, doctors, etc.) because of the high standard given by universities here in the Philippines. There were so many intelligent people here.

So I tell you, this is a perfect place for home.

You have to worry about typhoons and tsunamis but mostly typhoons which are like worse then hurricanes and everything but it has a warm climate all year around like 70s and 80s and its an island so if you like being surronded by water then yes and the cost of living is cheap over there compared to the US like a 2 bedroom apartment for like $200 or less I bet then again it probably depends on where you live but still .

omg!!!!!!!!!!!!in a heartbeat..we were moving there before hurricane katrina, but decided to stay in the states in rural colorado..MISTAKE....Im like WC Fields use to say about Philidelphia .. "I would rather be in the Philippines" geez..its paradise and the people are wonderful.. and the land beautiful and everything is so cheap..you can live like a king on 2000 a month.. im talking live in maids and driver and nice house and probably a pool..Its paradise...

Yes, it is. I'm planning to live there after I retire. You just have to remember that its a 3rd world country that has problems. Like anyplace else there are good areas and bad ones. Do your research about where you actually want to live when your there.

well i must say that i felt compelled to write an answer, mainly because i thought Joshua (above) wrote a mostly unfair assessment of the philippines. while i am not going to refute every single point, i encourage you to see the country for yourself (and keeping in mind that the philippines is NOT just manila). sure there are bad aspects (a lot of them actually), but there are far worse places in asia and elsewhere. to me, it's the people that make the difference. there's poverty everywhere, but then so are smiles and hopefulness.

yes... i live here for 28 years now.... well... i am born here.... besides those political crisis (yes, even the "terrorists" threat is a political crisis), Philippines is a good place to stay. There are 7001 Islands to choose from... i am from down here south.... in mindanao..... and i live in the place called General Santos, the Tuna Capital of the Philippines. Well.. our house is just 5 minutes walk to the beach..... so if you like to live here... why not??? for me... its still heaven!!!!

Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's beautiful. I've been through a couple of typhoons, but it was okay. The people are so friendly, there are so many things to do and see. It's one of my favorite places in the world... great exchange rate if you are living off a US $$$

I was born in the US, but left there 15 years ago and since have worked and lived in 8 other countries and done extensive business travel to many more. I am currently living in Manila and am trying to find a way to stay here permanently because it is the best place I've ever lived in.

I like the weather, the food, and the people - which are the key elements to enjoying a place. There is also a certain level of chaos, but still a lot of things work in the country. Countries like th USA and W. Europe are overregulated, places like Africa ar too chaotic.

Absolutely! everything is there very cheap. When you came from the west, you live there definitely as a king, good weather, you have always sun, beautiful beaches, and breathtaking nature. I will live there, surely after my retirement.

Sure why not! I heard that they speak about like 14+ languages in total! They're strongest language is Pilipino but they speak English too =]

It depends on ehat part of the country you live in, big cities like any other countries are crowded but provinces are the best choice.

First of all, I would like to thank both Filipinos and foreigners alike who appreciated my country for its good and bad aspects, and also thank you Joshua just the same. Philippines is not like other counterparts in Southeast Asia but it has its own beauty. It may not be as clean as Singapore or as modern like others but what made it stand out are the people who are willing to help any foreigner or local alike. Yes, there are bad schools but not all. There are still places to visit and to die for. And in any country there are red tape and i agree Philippines has one of the worst but that is due to poverty. The government is not totally rotten. There are bad and good sides of Philippines like traffic and typhoons but the Filipinos are ready to help once you got stuck anyways. I am a resident of another country now but reading the positive and negative comments about my country still aroused a patriotic feeling and I would recommend Philippines for everyone to stay anytime.

It's tolerable. It would be much better without smoky tricycles, jeepneys, busses and trucks half of which run around without taillights. It's a land of happy people, but communist New People's Army blowing up cellphone sites and airports, and the moslem Abu Sayaf trying to blow up malls. It's a land of malls... lots of them... so big you can get lost in them. It's a land where almost half of the GNP winds up in somebody's pocket; where roads are built to last 1 or 2 years so the contractors can repair them. Outside of Manila, sidewalks are as rare as hen's teeth - and if there is one, it's occupied by street vendors.
Other than that, it's an inexpensive place, where you can hire a live-in maid with meals for $60/month. But it's also a land of miles and miles of red tape.
I'm lucky living in a sort of peaceful cool place at 1800ft above the sea, and have only half a mile to go to a sidewalk (using a 4 lane highway to get to it), but the view is astounding.
