Call Centers are almost everywhere in the Philippines. The country is probably competing (if not actually) with India with the most call centers catering to clients in the Americas, Europe, Australia, Asia...
With your question...not all Filipinos have American accent. You must have spoken to those though that has that accent. Or it could be, that your call have been connected to the T-Mobile center in the US, or you must have spoken to an American agent.
I have been training accent for agents that would be assigned to different accounts. Depending on the accounts they will handle, they would be taught the accent for that country that account is for. The thing is, most agents have worked for different segments that they still apply the previous accent that they first taught for. Hence, having a mixed twang.
Hope this helps.

To jd : Filipinos refer to SLANG as twang. They dont mean that you have ghetto lingo. |

The Filipinos in call centres usually talk on the phone with Americans so much that they pick up the American accent. And anyway, the country was colonised under the US before, so they're more American than British. |

No, not all Filipinos speak English with an American accent. Only those trained like those working in call centers. You should hear my son speak (he works in a call center) you'd think he was an American. hahaha.....
We have our own accent or way of speaking the language - the Filipino accent, I call them. lol |

The answer is no, for FIlipinos have their own distinct accent, much like the Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese & other Asian people have their own.
But there are a lot of English speaking Filipinos & "some" do acquire the American, the British, the Australian accents among others. Filipinos do love Hollywood & watch American films & tv shows so they have taken to the American lingo & manner of speaking. Many Filipinos have also traveled all over the world so they are exposed to the different types of accents.
People who work for call centers are either accepted & selected because of their accents &/or trained for that kind of a job. The Indians normally handle the UK calls & most call centers in the Philippines handle the US calls. For this also is a drawback from who colonized who. |

hell no. The Filipino accent (I'm referring to all the accents we hear aroudn the entire country) is a beautiful accent.
I believe the Filipino tongue is, well, "talented" and Filipinos are naturally gifted with the ability to learn a language and understand all its nuances. There you go. |

Not that I've noticed. They sound very Asian to me. They tell me they can't understand my slang. I don't have slang. They do. |

To answer the first question alone, I would say NO. Not all Filipinos speak english with an American accent. Those who work in call centers do because they are trained and are required to for proper communication with customers. |

No matter what they think, most Filipinos that can speak English, do so with an American accent.
After all they were ruled by America for some time and were taught English by American tutors. |
