That is crazy. Your teacher is right that kids in Japan are required to study more often. However we have the same personalities as any other kid. We just know when it is time to work and when it is time to play. We also know how important education and technology is, this however doesn't change who we are. Now if he wanted to say we are more serious about study then most kids then I guess that might be correct but to say we have less of a personality is just crazy guess he has never spent time with me and my friends lol. |

Than other kids where? They probably have more 'class' than some of your 'personality' people! |

that isnt true they are just more focused than other kids. they understand that there is a time and place for everything, so when they are at school, that is where their minds are. |

No. They might have more. It depends on the person. |

I think kids in America have the worst personality.
They're like zombies! They dont get better till they hit college. |

yeah right, kids will be kids no matter what. |

If so, Sounth Korean kids would be more less personality. Because they are studying at cram school until mid-night -1 AM everyday. Japanese kids are in the bed around this time. |

Probably not. but what do i know--I'm not from Japan! |

Yes, Japan is strict, most kids there develop less personality.
At least they don't have retarded personalitys like most kids in the US. |

well the teacher probably only sees the students IN CLASS, and im pretty sure the students while LEARNING are going to act in a proper and orderly fashion. as opposed to american kids school to most is playtime and of course then you would be able to see more of the students personality.
im pretty sure the japanese kids have great personalities, or else why would other nations be so amazed by their subcultures? |

Believe or not this is true I lived In Japan and the children do have personalities:) But they are rarley social, because they
do have alot of study time:) |

They may have a more convoluted personality for working so hard.
Professor Mizuhito Kanehara's work is flawed in the basics. He assumes personality can be measured. |

I would not call it less personality but more dedicated to study and career oriented in the future this can be said for many places as well besides Japan |

Kids are kids, no matter what country. Sure some of us might have played tag as kids, and other of us kancho, but we all have great personalities, different at times. |
|

Question=Answer
|
Well they're probably more disciplined and smarter obedient than american kids, every kid i know is really annoying, they're either super hyper or too lazy like they're on ritalin. at least japanese kids have personality! lol. and i'm sure they have personality because of all those cool fashion trends, way more expressive and original than america's sucky threads. |

Wouldn't it be considered highly acceptable? Isn't Japan more of a conformist society?
--------------------------------------...
The point being is that some societies dont mesh everything at once. At school you focus on school and learning. Social gatherings you focus on, social skills and socializing. (Yes, Im sure that at all times basic social conduct rules apply). Im not implying they frown on socializing or having a "personality". I am saying the structure for using certain skills isn't the same as ours. Same ideas, different timing. I'd think it would make it a little easier to figure out when you are supposed to do what, instead of relying on social cues. Reminds me of "monkey see, monkey do." Which goes back to "reserving them" (social cues) for social function. |

I totally disagree. I have over 10 friends i know who live in Japan and have came to visit me in America and if ANYTHING they have more of a personality then anyone i know! |
|

Well, that would be their personality then: studious.
I think sometimes the Japanese education system discourages creativity. Then I think again and realize that there are some amazing things those kids do that their peers in other countries would be incapable of doing.
I'm guessing this Japanese teacher is looking at you and is excited that you're this young foreigner exploring a new world, while they're just a plain old teacher.
As the saying goes, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." Not that I agree with that, but maybe that's what the teacher is thinking about him/herself, and is projecting that onto the students. |

yes that people from jepan and china study really hard and the teacher make them to do alots of home work. I use to go to school in china and jepan and the teacher in china would makin us to go to school in the weeken 2. some time they make us to go to school in the nights 2. I reamber that I HAD to go to school 4 about 13 hours a day. we wake up in the morring like 6. at around 11 we go home to ave lunch. come back at 12:30 than go home at 5 come back like 6:30 than go home to sleep at like 9. there is no way we can have any extera time to do other things at all. If the reasom that people think that we have mor less of a personalty. than that the teacher's problam. they should make the time in school les. we dont even have the time to eat our meal. |
