I believe because I'm a cradle Catholic and has been taught early on that God is kind and merciful and above all else, He loves me. I believe because I love Him too above all else. I believe because my strong Faith has never given me any reason to fear Him. Or to doubt His love for me. |

I'd say that most people believe in God, because of the fear instilled by those preachers who initiated them into their Faith (religion).
That is simply because of their blind faith (belief, or trust) in this unjustifiable fear !

I think it depends on the culture one is brought up with like in the Philippines since primarily we are a Catholic Country, it was ingrained in us since childhood that there is a God so basically it's more out of fear that not believing in God means your life will be miserable etc.... but as we grow older our beliefs change and if one decides to continue believing there is a God then it's because of Faith already....... |

I would have posed the question differently - "Do most people believe in God becasue of fear or love?" or "Is most peoples faith in God based on fear or love?" People can have faith in God and that faith can result in fear of God or love of God.
The Catholic Church prior to Second Vatican was based around the fear of God. Out of Second Vatican came a new premise for people to have faith and it was based on a loving, caring and giving God.
Us older Catholics would remember quite well in school being taught by the Sisters to do good or fear God's punishment, but since the seventities the emphasis has been taken from a God who punishes those who do not obey to a God who rewards those who do.
I believe today most people regardless if they are Catholic or Protestant have faith in God because they love God and understand God loves them. |

more on fear, I guess... they dread the pains of hell.
unless you're not a Christian, then it's very likely faith by own will.. but that's just my opinion. |

wow. this question really puzzled me.
my answer would fall between the two choices because:
first, many people tend to believe in God because they are afraid to get their souls burn in hell in the end, and second,
there are also quite numerous people who do believe in God, including myself. i think in this one they have EXPERIENCED living with God. i don't know how to explain this one, but this is something to be felt. |
