Do teachers in Japan hit students?

I was just wondering if teachers in Japan hit their students, or punish them badly. If anyone has been to a school in Japan, please tell me what you have viewed.

The simple answer is no. I've been teaching here for 4 years and I can say in any public institution kids are under no circumstances harmed in any way. Parent involvement in schools in also very high making it scary for teachers to do anything that might cost them their jobs.

No. The most common punishment I've seen is having the student stand outside the classroom holding two pails of water. Which I think would suck more than getting two whacks on the bum. I think they have different techniques to deal with rowdy students, but hitting is not a common one that I hear about.

I hear China and the Koreas still hit students with paddles and whatnot.

I am quite suret that it is not true now, but it was that way a long time ago. If it happens now, those would be a few isolated cases, and the teacher could get in trouble for it.

yes, seriously as an former exchange student aid, I have witnessed many accounts in my views as a personal punsihment. When I do something bad in Hong Kong, teachers wouldn't hit me or punish me they will look at me and smile and say "i fogive you" This is because im an American, and they think of American as money payee's. Seriously, hiting a kid is hard, but it makes them more displin as often as an average American kid would come in a package.
They do it, rare occasions its not against the law or anything, the parents sign the forum displin my kids, they check yes. Its gets them out of trouble.

Giving students corporal punishment by teachers are forbidding in Japan, but in reality some of them hit as discipline of children. If students and their parents report to the board of education, the teachers are imposed on some sort of punishment.

I was used to be hit because of my mischievous behaviour. My parents paid no attention to my complaints.

In my generation, majority of the parents would have anticipate their children to learn good manners as well as scholastic achievements. So, like my parents, some parents were not hesistate even if their dear children got a good beating from the teachers for the sake of becoming better person.

But times have changed. Owing to recent glowing presses for terrible physical punishments, teachers are exposed to the manaces of the disciplinary acion. Students rarely get punched in the face.

I'm going to school in Japan right now. The teachers will tap the kids on the top of the head, but it's just as a joke. The students will bump into the teachers on purpose in the classroom, etc. It's only ever as a joke that either "hits" the other, and it's never hard enough to hurt.

I think no in some school. Well I have a friend from Japan, she's on high school and she said no, my school didn't did it. I think it depends from what school. Maybe some of the school did that, such as in China.

i think yes, in malaysia we even have public caning. i saw a teacher pulled a student(a girl) hair and drag her out... he's nuts, and the girl did nothing wrong. when i was in form 1 a teacher slap a student then he apologised the next day.

do u think teacher have the right to hit students??

Looking for the truth...
Yes. In some cases blood is drawn. Some of my students have horror stories from their time in High school especially. I guess no one ever thought of suing.

There's always someone who just looses it, but such people exist everywhere in this world.

If such thing happens, it becomes news, and the teacher's license is temporarily or permanently suspended. Also, the teacher usually pays huge amount to the family of the student he has hit, if they press charges against him.

Generally, no, they don't hit students.

Some teachers are caught molesting children, but I couldn't find anything in English

This article is in Japanese , but it says that a middle school teacher has had sexual relationship with 4 of his students, last year form May to October.

most teachers in any countries in Asia hit students, very hard. I seen once, after the teacher hit the student they said they want them to be good and they also think that they've done the right thing
