I don't know about being the best Asian country to visit for the summer, but here's my opinion! :)

As everyone else said, it's pretty humid and rainy during the summer months.

But as for the expensiveness and Americanization, I don't know what they're talking about.

Dongdaemoon (area in Seoul) has the best, cheapest shopping I've ever seen anywhere. There's streets and streets lined with clothes shops, shoe shops, and even materials to make clothes/whatever with. And, best of all, you can haggle prices down if you know how to. ;)

There's a lot of public transportation, besides. The subway, busses, taxis all take you where you need to go. The subway especially is very developed.

Its culture is very unique, not a mix of Japanese/Chinese culture as most people think. The food is the best part. If you've ever seen Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace) drama, you'll see what I mean.

Since it is summer, the people may not be at their friendliest. But it's like that everywhere else though, don't you get like that when its humid and rainy?

There's so much stuff to do there, I can't even list all of them. If you get outside the main Seoul area, there's mountains and islands and rivers, etc.

Jeju Island is also a popular tourist destination. It's on the southernmost tip of Korea, a lot of honeymooners go there because it's so beautiful. It's kinda odd because it's so tropical, kind of like a Hawaii for Korea. The tangerines are famous there for their taste, if you get a chance to go, try them!

Hope that helps~!

That depends on the personal preferences

No. It's so hot here. I live in Seoul and the humidity and heat make it impossible to enjoy. Either come in the spring (End of April or May) or in October, when it's delightful.

In the summer, I'd rather go to Malaysia, Thailand or Singapore. I've been to all in August and there's more of a breeze. In the tropics the temperature's more constant and pleasant than most would expect.

Although SK is very interesting, it is expen$ive compared to most other countries in asia. Personally I would recommend China because it is more diverese than korea and a lot more affordable.

I won't spend my summer there.
Best time to visit Korea is either spring or fall.
It's pretty humid, and people are not necessarily in their best mood during this time.
Southern Asia will be my choice.

South Korea is a fine country to visit, especially in the Spring or Fall. It's not expensive and the people are quite friendly, contrary to what other posters have said. Japan and China have more to offer in some aspects, but both places are much more expensive to visit than SK. If you're trying to decide which Asian country to visit, perhaps you should research the sights and attractions on the internet and decide which you'd like to see more. If you're looking for an economical introduction to Asian culture, however, South Korea is a great place to start.

Summer in Korea is very, very humid. Depending on when you go, you might get stuck in the summer storms ("jjangma")-- the rainy season has been less predictable in recent years. I don't know which Asian country would be the best to visit during summer, but I don't think Korea counts.

If you like hiking, the mountains around Seoul are very good. Seoul itself is very Americanised. I have not seen anything outside of Seoul area. It's worth visiting if you have a reason to be there or are in the North East Asia. If you're flying all the way from the UK, I think there are other countries worth visiting before you get to South Korea.

listen to the other posters, there are issues here between foreigners and the locals....but there answers are politically safe and correct for the most part......

Well I live in Korea, and it is a great place to visit, but compared to the rest of Asia, it is not cheap. You can get a 4 day guided Tour in Shanghai or Beijing including airfare, hotel, food, massage, plays, and entertainment for $250. You can't even get airfare for $250 to Korea.

Although Korea is the second most expensive country next to Japan in Asia, it is a perfect place for shopping electronic gadgets and cool outfits, but you have to know where to go. Koreans spend their hard earn money to learn English and it means you can easily get by without knowing the local language. People are friendly and their mass transportation system is efficient.

If you want good food and shopping, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand are the places to visit. For a safe, clean environment and easy access to public transport, Singapore is the best. No problem communicating with the locals either.

Sorry, not sure about South Korea but I would go with a tour group if I head out that way.

Depends on what you're looking for.

If it were me, S. Korea would be far down my list of places to see. It's expensive, and generally I find the people there to be inconsiderate by American standards (such as cutting in line), which gets annoying.

Japan is a less stressful, more fun place to be in. Southeast Asia is very inexpensive and I think the culture is more interesting.
