Yes, Filipinos are one of the best English speaking peoples in Asia. It is possible to live in the Philippines speaking nothing but English. I don't know if that would be the same in India as I haven't lived there.
The language of business is also widely spoken in Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and now other countries stepping up to the reality that the Global Market needs one language and English is that tongue.
Interesting question. |

Yes, I belive we Filipinos are the best in Asia when it comes to speaking the American english language. This is the result of being under the american rule for year back in the time of my great grandpa, and before his time. and no offense to the chinese from hong kong, but even if they've been under the britsh rule, they're still not that good, no contest.
And can you belive some Filipinos can still speak decent Spanish. |

I have taught English in Japan and South Korea. I have also traveled a lot. Yes, Filipinos can speak English well. Along with Singapore, the Philippines has the best English speakers in Asia. |

Well, many will say yes which is why many foreign companies engage the services of Filipino telemarketers. In fact, there was a study conducted by Dell involving Filipinos and Indians. It found out that, on the average, it only takes 3 to 4 weeks for a Filipino to fully learn different standard accent especially American, while an Indian will necessitate 4 to 5 weeks to achieve the same proficiency. Not only that, American schools prefer Filipino teahers over any other nationalities due to lingusitic prowess and world-class peformance, not to mention the many Asian schools scrambling to get Filipino educators.
I hope I was able to shed light on this issue. Good luck! |

Yes, I couldn't agree more! Filipinos are one of the best english speakers in Asia. Not being biased, it's because English perse' is the 2nd major language in the Phils. It is part of the curriculum in school and it is taught at an early stage. Even little kids can speak good english (of course, those kids who speak good english are those from a well-off family).
I am proud to be a Filipino who can speak both my native language and English. |

english classes are very cheap in the philippines and a lot of chinese and koreans can afford them.
another reason is that yes,we could speak english well compared to other asian countries. we can express ourselves better than them. |

Among asian countries, Filipino is the second language of the Philippines. Some Filipino's speak better English than their native tongue.
The reason for this is that the language is taught at an early stage and had been polished through the years. Filipino's being adaptable can even change their accent to suit the intonation you prefer.
That is why Filipinos are even sought by US to be teachers in their country our as outbound telemarketers.
Filipinos who have been colonized by the Americans still take pride in speaking the English language |

The Philippines has the best English speakers. They do not have much of an accent when they speak English. With people from India their accent sometimes makes them hard to understand, even if their English is correct. The accent seems to stay with them much longer. People who have been here for 15 years, still have an accent. People from Europe also have an accent. For whatever reason, their accent does not make it more difficult to understand them.
The company I work for shifted a lot of work to the Philippines. |

You have some great answers here and I agree with most. Because American style English is taught throughout their primary education from about grade 2 up, they are better educated and more time to learn than other Asian nations.
America, Australia, England then the Philippines are the largest English speaking nations in that order, the last I heard. Many Filipinos I have communicated with can type and write English ok, but have trouble with pronunciation. |

yes but sometimes they still have accent because they play w/ the words. and when they talk to one another they don't what accent to use.they can mimic any song. the old Elvis song sounds so exact |

Well...
Put It This Way...
English Is Our Second Language After Tagalog (Philippines National Dialect)
And Some Filipinos/Filipinas Are More Comfortable Speaking And Conversating In English Than Tagalog...
And
About The Best English Speaking Country In Asia...
I Know For A Fact That We Filipinos Speak Much Better English Than Any Other Countries In Asia Because...
1. We Dont Confuse Our R's With Our L's or Vice Versa...
2. We Dont Have Such A Strong Accent And Our Accents Blend Better Than Lets Say Chinese,Vietnames,Japanese Or Lets Say Indians?!
3. Yes,Some Of Them Are Not The Best English Talkers Due To Their Age...But The Only Thing They Have A Little Problem With Is Grammar But It Doesnt Take a Genius To Get What They Are Saying...
And To "Turkish" Who Is Saying That "CHEAP LABOR CRAP"
The Reason Why The English Schools Here Are Cheap Is Due To English School Competitors...
They Come TO The Philippines Because We Have The Best English Teachers & Schools There.
So Many Filipino's Build More English Schools Because So Many Asian Foreigners Come There For English Lessons.
Its BUSINESS. Its MONEY.
They Lower Their Prices So People Would Come To Them.
Its Just Called Common Sense...
I Mean Think About It.
Why Doesnt These Chinese, Taiwanese, Singaporean, Koreans & Japs Just Stay In Their Own Country & Spend Their Own Money To Go To An Expensive English School There.
U Say Its Because The "SCHOOL" Is Cheap In The Philippines...
But Hello Think About It Dont They Have To Rent A Condo, Maid, Be Away From Their Families & Friends, Different Culture, Food, Car & Sacrifice A Lot Of Things To Be In A Whole Different Setting Just To Learn English In The Philippines?! |

Since English is the second language and is taught at an early age in The Philippines, yes, many Filipinos speak English (actually, more American) fairly well. I have found that Filipinos are the best (least accent) speakers in Asia. Even though India was a British colony and many people speak English, I have found the various Indian accents to be difficult to understand.
Koreans, especially, are rabid about learning Engish - even to having surgery to alter the tongue - and The Philippines are convenient (and have good weather and low costs), so some Koreans do go there for classes. |

Yes. Filipinos are one of the best English speakers in Asia.Well, you observations are definitely true. The Chinese and Koreans do go to the Philippines to study, because of the low cost, the durability of what the teachers are teaching and their concentration to learn a new lesson. I am not saying the Philippines is really the greatest English speaker but it is ONE of the best English speaker in Asia. I hope you understand...................... |

yes we are. we have been trained to speak the english language since we were young. it is the medium of instruction in schools and it is very prevalent because of the imperialist domination. |

Among the Asians, yes. The one who objects has not been to the Philippines and therefore has not really interacted with the reasonable number of Filipinos for him to know that fact. |

You must be smoking dog food. Why would Chinese and Koreans go to Philippines to learn English? Thats like going to a Catholic church to learn Judism. You people just THINK you know english. Filipinos already have nothing but contempt for english speaking people. It sickens me to see the way you talk to foreigners on here like your s.h.i.t. dont stink. You people need to read a history book and see why you're not speaking Japanese. |

I don't think so. People from Singapore and Hong Kong speak the best English and can be understood easily because they do not have thick accent and are good in English.
If people been saying Filipinos are the best just because many foreign companies engage the services of Filipino telemarketers, it is because they are cheap labours. That is why foreign companies take them in.
Singaporeans, Hong Kongers and Filipinos, the most cheapest labours are the Filipinos. That is why they take Filipinos. Same goes to the Indians. |
