No, the Olympics is not about politics, I love the my own people and the Tibetans with all of my heart. You don't know how hard the People(not the government) have worked and anticipated for the Olympics, if you boycott the Olympics you'll only satisfy the radical Tibetans. |

Tibetians & Darfur and Human Rights activists are trying to take this approach with the Olympics.
But given what we know, we could boycott every Olympics for one reason or another. And others would boycott America Olympics. And it would get really politicized really quickly.
I think its the prerogative of the activists to express their opposition... but its also the prerogative of the Chinese to arrest you and detain you indefinitely without trial. |

Olympics must be separated from politics. China is going to host the best Olympics ever. Period. |

Didn't China boycott the Moscow olympics in 1980 for political reasons? |

Olympic is a place where we celebrate the international spirit of sport..the olympic spirit.
It is the only time in which all of us can just come together and cherish our differences because that is the only thing that matters the most.. so why don't we just throw politics out of this?
for those who want to boycott the olympic...please do...ain't going to stop you...just keep on being anti-china...but first..get your facts straight...and make sure that you really understand the issue before jumping to big conclusions..
yes..we do need the olympic and I think that the beijing olympic is going to be good...tibet issue is an internal one so as a foreigner..you should stay out of a subject that you don't even know...
if we should boycott the olympic then are we going to boycott the london olympics for their involvement in the iraq war? how about australia? america? how about germany for what happened a few decades ago? how about...the list goes on |

the human rights record of the countries that hosted similar events in the past is also no good. by this yardstick, wecannot hold the olympics anywhere. tibet is an internal matter of china. however, international pressure can be built up for treating the tibetan rebellion more humanly without linking the matter to the olympics. |

There are grave human rights violations being commited by the Chinese and it does question whether or not that country should be recieving any sort of favorable international press.
However, the olymics is not just about China, but about celebrating the accomplishments of superior athletes worldwide. The olympic atheletes did not choose the location for the games, and boycotting the olymics hurts them as much as it does China.
Furthermore, a true boycott of the olympics, one that would be useful in getting the point across, would require not only the fans but the atheletes themselves to boycott the games in a show of solidarity for the atrocities being suffered by the people of Tibet and Darfur. At this time only one athelete has dropped out of the games and he has cited China's pollution as his reasoning. |

If anything, it will bring the spotlight onto China and their spotty human rights record. The olympic games should transcend politics, imo, so they should not be boycotted. |

I'm just curious how long China will be successful as a country period. I mean when you routinely tourture your own people and take their land without any compensation and put them in jail when they complain about it, the Olympics might be there this year, but the country as a whole I'm worried about. I don't think that it should be boycotted just because they forcefully invaded a country and currently have troops in it. No Tibet isn't officially China and can't be called that because of their occupation there and UN regulations. |

yes - the common Chinaman is really looking forward to the olympics. Why hurt people who already get a poor deal I say? - If only the Chinese government had the same attitude Tibet would never have been annexed in the first place!
I have to disagree with a chinese answerer who comments " tibet issue is an internal one so as a foreigner..you should stay out of a subject that you don't even know..."
Your advice to us to stay out of foreign issues you do not know would not be needed if the Chinese government has taken the exact same advice the day they decided to invade Tibet. |

if your so opposed by the Chinese Olympics when the Tibetains are being "ill treated" by the Chinese Govermnent, please take some time out of your oh so busy life to remove all products in your house which are Made In China... also take some time to look at the fotage of the oh so innocent tibetans beating the hell out of chinese business men in Tibet...... |

Can you elaborate the part of ill treatment? I just read my newspaper this morning that the Chinese Government has invested so much in Tibet that Tibet's economy grew 13.2% last year. A rate higher than China itself. But some Tibetans, especially those living out of China see it as faster rate of settlement by Han Chinese.
Everyone was living peacefully until the protest and riot broke out. Why did it happen this year? It is timed nicely to by the year of the China Olympics.
By all means boycott the Olympics, and make China close up again. |

The world knows that no-body from China will visit Yahoo for the reason of ;-
1) Language problem
2) The West do not know China and the people there
------the west may defame them for any flimsy ground.
3) The progress in China has made the world to use products made by them and to outsource jobs and services from them ... but they won't speak to the world.
However, please go through this below :-
Nancy Peliocy .. from the country which is regarded as "global war mongers" have said something this day and see the China's reaction below :-
Friday, 21 March , 2008, 21:35 New Delhi: As US Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke strong words after meeting the Dalai Lama, China on Friday warned against any international "meddling" in its "internal affairs" and asked countries like India not to be "misled" by the spiritual leader's "nice words." Special: Blood on the Roof of the World | Full coverage: Tibetan uprising "We oppose any country, any organisation, any person interfering in China's internal affairs. We have stated clearly that Tibet is China's internal affair. "We don't allow anybody to meddle in China's internal affairs. Any attempt to cause trouble to China is doomed to fail," Chinese ambassador to India Zhang Yan told a press conference here. His strong words came as US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi met the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala and asked all freedom loving people to speak out against China's "oppression" in Tibet. The envoy was guarded in his comments on India saying China appreciated the position adopted by New Delhi and hoped that it would continue to have the "correct" stand with regard to developments in Tibet "
May anybody take this Lady out from India which has a century old good relations with China ? |

The current Olympics should be boycotted as the Tibet issue still stands unresolved. It is actually quite amusing and sad to note that the athletes do not feel for the poor people of Tibet. |

Who is "WE"? If "WE" are radical Tibetans then yes. If "WE" are people who enjoy the Olympic spirits, then the answer is "NO". |
