It works both ways , if you choose the wrong partner in your life and did not put much taught and time in knowing each other before making the lifetime choice , then it could .
Both of the partner in a marriage must support each others ambition and dreams . Every goal of a marriage between two people should be the growth and progress of each other , not one outshining the other for his/her own glory . If its should be the woman supporting the dream and ambition of the man by sacrificing her own ambition ,then so be it as long as the man recognize that when he reached his ambition and pinnacle of success , the woman is part of it and not only the recipient of the proceeds of the success. Same as in case of the woman needing support from his man when her ambition is for the greater good of the family , then its the man's turn to support and sacrifice for the woman's dreams .
Destroying each other only come when both are selfish and wants the glory and accolades for him/or herself and does not acknowledged the support given by trhe other partner.
