Yes, I believe Filipinos are one of the happiest people in the world. It is their nature to be happy. Even amid crisis, they still have the heart to shrug their problems off; the men on a drinking spree in front of a karaoke, the women on with their daily lives doing tsismis with the neighbors and having the laughs at some new gossips regarding their favorite idols. You seldom find Filipinos dead serious in anything except politics. They are contented with their lot, even if there is not enough food on the table; it is the way of their life yet you seldom hear them complain but just accept the fact that they are poor. Yet, it makes them happy. Even the corniest of jokes that have been told and retold so many times still find an appreciative audience; that's how happy the Filipinos are.

Mutya P
You can see the bloody awful place but the innermost part, deep within them, they can manage to find time to console themselves to make them happy. They have shallow happiness to make both ends meet, too.
GOD SAVE YOUR PEOPLE!

i am a filipino. and the answer is no. i think people are all the same. and they all have their own ups and downs.

Arvin Al
well the first guy had a point, it's an awful place.

but look at the people. they can still laugh even when they have their problems.

I guess it has something to do with strong family and friendship ties.

So I take it you are one of the happy ones. I can't say for others but all I can say is that you can't see misery when you go to malls or watch those noon time tv shows and despite the economic crunch everybody seems to be in a shopping and spending frenzy.

jrl
No, I think Koreans are. I translated for a Korean lady who got cheated by a Filipino real estate broker for P50,000 pesos yesterday. When I told her she'll never get her money back, she was still smiling. Really weird...

?

Maybe, it's because of the fact that Filipinos still continue to smile despite of many problems.

A lot of them are very happy. Not because of what they have, but because of what they live for.

Take these:
where in the world can you find people who sees humor in every calamity? natural or man-made, Filipinos still find time to smile or even laugh before, during and after every adversities.
We just laughed it off after surviving almost 400 years of Spanish rule, decades of Americanization , couple of years of Japanese occupation, years of martial rule and dictatorship, NPA's, MNLF, Abu Sayyaf, looooongg frustrating years of political ineptitude, aaahhhh! seeing Kris Aquino on TV. now that's real fun!
Need I say more why we're a happy bunch???

battgirl
Yes, have you seen any other nationalities who manages to laugh wholeheartedly even with a huge problem he has to bear?

2bme
Not "can be considered" but "they are considered".. it is a fact.

we are the happiest people in the world because of our attitude about life...for us filipinos --- sorrow looks back; worry looks around, and faith looks up! and faith is what we have a lot of...and so we believe, we hope, we dream, we aspire --- always with a smile, always with cheerfulness. God bless the Philippines!!!

john
yes. anywhere in the world, though we feels something unusual or homesick or we are over burdened with problems, we filipino still manage to smile.

I don't know if they are one of the happiest but I do know that despite the trial and tribulations they have had to contend with they certainly smile a lot.
Every scowl or sneer I have received whilst in the Phils has been replaced with at least1000 smiles.
From the kids in over crowded classrooms, to the squatters and to the palay planters, or even the street urchins a smile is never far away.
With all my trips to the Phils I can say I have lived there 1.5% of my life.

Yes because we don't take our problems too seriously, we can cope up with those problems because our friends, family and loved ones are there to support us "a.k.a. dumamay". Plus, we're humorous and love to goof around..hihi

I can say Filipino smiles a lot despite the hardship and misery. That's why being a Psychiatrist in the Philippines is not a good option because Filipino has a strong family and friends tie that they can just talk to them whatever their problems are.

They don't have to sit down in a couch and take anti depressant and pay the shrink just to tell him/her their problem, Filipino can always do that anytime with their family and friends for free.

Yes, bec Filipinos are just happy of what they have and what they do. They are not that serious in competing w/ other countries, not lyk thinking solutions everyday. That's why it's one of the poor country but one of the happiest one.

Yes, I think...b/c even though they had a lot of probs...they kept on smiling! :) My opinion

Artman
That's just a stereotypical misconception. Like us they have their own problems too.

Fact of life: no people is fully happy in this world.

papars
True happiness comes from within oneself and no external factors can influence it. External factors can only add to happiness.

yes,, because even we have a lot of problems we keep on smiling.

Filipinos are inherently happy. Even for the worst situation, they find ways to smile and uplift each other so as not to lose hope. Yes, we may be a poor country but we don't lose hope as we believe that all of what we experience now are trials of our faith in God. Thus, wherever we are, whenever it is, we just hold on to the thought that we can survive all of what we are facing. That's why we still find the time to laugh amidst all our crises.

Mabuhay ang pinoy!

st. longinus
inspite of all the problems and challenges filipinos face, they still have the time for smiles and laughters

not "one of happiest..." but "the happiest..."!

mabuhay ang Filipino!

eastglam
No well I wasn't when I visited for 3 weeks, a bloody awful place.
