You know what. She did not really meant it. She had a crush on Dean Cain if u know him, his dad is Japanese. He played "Superman" with Co-Star Terry Hatcher. She mistaken him for Filipino and she just wanted to get back at him.

Ok? My Doctor is Filipino and I would not change him for anyone else...nuf said nuf nuf nuf

most people believe that. & some say that it was just meant as a joke, so no big deal, which it should, unless of course if you have been subjected to such a situation personally. which i have on one occasion already.

but anyway for me that wasnt what the script writers wanted to imply--lets not blame the actress here.

but what slightly gets on my nerves is that how some americans cant seem to get past how a nation so small, so poor & so insignificant, produce so many college graduates if not so many medical doctors. i for one have a number of relatives & acquiantances that are graduates of medicine in the philippines & are practicing in the US of A.

& that is what i got off this short line. which im sure many of our "kababayans" (fellow filipinos) in the US know for a fact.

& this is not to shoot down the argument that there are indeed a significant number of our "kababayans who do have "fake" diplomas, but i still believe that a vast majority do have "real" ones.

& that if you are already working in a hospital in the US or already have a private practice there, then all your "papers" should have been cleared & there should have been no question about that. & that is the point that i saw in this whole thing.

The Philippines has some very good schools, and some very bad schools, and very little in between.

It is possible to "buy" a degree in the Philippines, if you attend the right college, without actually learning anything. Not all the colleges are like that.

The Philippines has a rigorous exam system that tends to compensate for their colleges. Twenty years ago it was possible to get favored treatment if the exam administrator was a relative or one of your old teacher's, I don't know if that's still possible.

If your doctor is a Filipino practicing in the USA, rest assured that he/she additionally passed a very rigorous set of exams in order to be qualified to work outside the Philippines.

Even the good colleges are very cheap, by American standards.

in fairness to her, she's just doing her job. however, the moment she read the script, she should've already realized that it isn't a nice thing to say. If you people believe what teri hatcher said, or the people behind desperate housewives said on the show about it, then why is it that there are lots of filipino doctors, nurses, health workers here in united states? and why is it that there are lots of foreigners studying medical courses in the philippines? why don't you try to talk to people who have experienced being taken cared of by filipinos in medical field, they sure know better!

I invoke my right to remain silent. Hahahahaha. It's just being tactless at all. I know she read the script, memorized it and...could've check the veracity of info she's gonna say, though it was written, obviously, by the stupid writer.

no..there are some but not all...it is really fine with me if the one who said it is the best doctor in the worlf. BUT to think it is said by an actress and written by a script writer makes me sick...actresses and actors are the dumbest people on earth unless they study a really good course on college...

It wasn't Teri Hatcher who implied or said anything. It was her character. And as Papa Chuck said, the character did not even imply that the Philippines has bad medical schools.

Actors cannot change lines in a script; and, neither can a director or producer - unless thoroughly discussed with the scriptwriter.

Consider the line or thought a production blunder or an outright attempt to cause controversy to get TV ratings. But either way, it did rouse the Filipino community to become indignant, which is expected; but, should also serve as a wake up call if indeed there are still diplomas that can be bought or forged in the country.

She read and acted the script, so well in fact. you believed what she said.
Go after the writer's, not Teri Hatcher.

Teri Hatcher followed the script. Blame the writer and producer.

PC
She didn't really say "that Philippines has bad medical schools" she was asking about the 'DIPLOMA' on the wall.
I refer you to another question

Why is this getting such top priority when there are more pressing problems such as poverty, corruption, crime, outbreak of dengue fever, squatters just to mention a few.

BOPOLS are you ready please don't wait to No.50.

We should be happy Filipinos are being mentioned anywhere. It's was just a joke. Get over it , worry about more pressing things like poverty and the homeless.
