Do you eat rat in Philippines? |
My Filipino friend say that when I will come and visit his family in the Philippines they are going too cook rat for me.
I said to him that I will never eat it, but he says that its not a house rat but a rat who lives in the rise field so he said the rat is not dirty since it eat rice. Still I will never eat it, but he laughs every time he mention it, so maybe he is just joking with me.
Do you eat rat in the PI or is my friend just teasing me?
His family is not poor either. Hmmmm.... |

maybe your friend owns a ricefield and most farmers really do that..
i have seen one ate it and told me that it taste good as ADOBO.. but i had never tried it..
dont be scared.. the Mouse is big and clean..
and u will enjoy your visit here.. Filipinoes are known for being very HOSPITABLE.. so enjoy your visit and dont be afraid to try new things... |

Well,I'd say there would be some places in the philippines especially up north that it has now become a delicacy since field rats have become like sort of a pest destroying rice fields and its production but only very few of them wait until you visit China since exotic foods have already crept on in their daily menu which include rats.I for myself never tasted one but I'd love to have a bite or two since they said it tastes better than chicken but there is a bit of an after taste but won't last long.heheheheh!Your friend was definitely just joking.Don't take it seriously! |

Field mice are considered exotic food as with snakes, wild cats, etc.
They are not a common fare here in the Philippines but some people do eat field mice. |

If one is hungry, and trying to survive, you will be surprised what one will eat.
It is NOT "disgusting" it is survival....I have never eaten rat (that I know of) but I promise you if I had nothing else and was trying to survive (myself or my kids) I would have no problem learning to eat it....
For those of you who think you're too good for that or look down on others who do....you are not worth the salt from my sweat. |

Some people eat "field rats" not the rats on the streets. It's a delicacy in some provinces. |

not all filipinos eat rat, but i've tasted it, just can't distinguish it from a wild fowl.and your friend is talking about field rats that are pest in the rice and corn fields, Rats are good source of protein. Have an open mind. It's no different where some people abhor fellatio or cunnilingus bc they thought it is dirty when in fact, they do mouth kissing that harbors lot of germs and microorganism compared to the clean genital area.
if this is harmful to health, the elite military forces would not recommend eating it.Bon appetite. |

In Pampanga and Nueva Ecija they do. These are not your household rats. rather, these are rats in the ricefields that feed only on plants and, therefore, are clean.
This was a feature I saw on a late night local TV program. They showed how the rats are captured, dressed, cooked. There is adobong rat, fried, etc.
They are a delicacy. |

Negative.
I don't eat rat in the Philippines, but given the choice between eating "field rat" in my own country, and that rat that used to invade our staff accommodation in Riyadh, a rat so big even the cats scamper when he shows up from the sewer, I'd take our own Philippine rat any time of day. |

Not me but other people especially in the agricultural areas in the province do eat rats. I think the reason for this is poverty. If they had the money to spare to buy a burger, i bet they'd prefer the burger over the rat. |

Field mice are common in the rice fields of Central Luzon, and in fact people eat them, though not because of poverty (you might be implying people eat them because they're poor).
I am sure the dish is prepared in a manner that one couldn't tell what meat was used. Surely they wouldn't just deepfry and serve them, tail and all, of course not. They say it's delicious. |

Not everyone does. There are those with exotic tastes.
There's this man that already had a bat, monkey, iguana, python, frog, horse, carabao, dogmeat; Even though those varieties are available to those who search for it, the general populace does not.
Your friend may be teasing you.
