Do you like Taglish?

Well I've seen a lot of Filipinos talk in Taglish, though some people I've met think it's stupid because it's a corrupt way of Tagalog, sounds stupid, and it's better to be bilingual.

"Wat is wrong naman in speaking Taglish. Basta natural naman ang dating and it's not fake. Mas effective nga kasi eh. Kung ano lang ang comfortable sa 'yo, that's wat you gamit, okay?"

I honestly think there's nothing wrong in using Taglish. As long as you're talking in your natural way and without forcing anything lest it appears fake and annoying. I believe Taglish is a very effective way of communicating among peers. So if you're comfortable with Taglish then by all means, use it.

it depends. i can tolerate "taglish" at some points but those that blatantly "murder" both the english and filipino languages really make me cringe.

i speak taglish at times too and i do have my own definition of acceptable "taglish."
ex:
you put it there "na lang."
i haven't seen him yet 'eh."
please inform her "na lang po" that i dropped by.

i know it sounds "conotic" and "maarte" to some but it's inevitable to talk like that in my industry. even our media & entertainment industries speak that way at times.

these forms of "taglish" are unacceptable and atrocious for me:
it's so "mainit naman" here. let's make go "na lang" to the mall and make "palamig" over there.
let's make "tusok tusok" the fishball na.
like you are so "tagal" ever. i don't like to make "hintay" you know.

arrgh! that's plain "kaartehan" if i may say so. OA "na."

for corporate communications, of course i only use the english language.

I don't like. In fact I hate it when posers DELIBERATELY speak Taglish to go with the trend. I take exception when there is an English word in between that have no Tagalog equivalent or for those communicating with a foreigner in the hope of teaching him Tagalog in a gradual manner. I find it easy to teach my hubby Tagalog by speaking Taglish minus the maarte accent of course.

In a different note, I read a piece from someone who went to an all-girl Catholic upclass school and currently studying in UP Law. She narrates how maarteng Taglish is a way of communication that would seem normal and not eyebrow-raising within the confines of her high school. In law school, this is unthinkable so she speaks in fluent English just fine.

It's fine with me just as long as it's not a cause for miscommunication.

zzz... hmmm... beer... zzz...
(it's not taglish)

Personally I like it simply because my knowledge of Tagalog is very limited but when Taglish is used I find that I can understand the conversation a lot better.

i speak WarayGlish not Taglish

i can't imagine speaking the Taglish texts. that would make me laugh to death.

Yes. The important thing is to get the message across without any ambiguities. That is the purpose of language: to communicate, in whatever form that works.

?
Ok lang basta hindi sobrang OA.

m0cca
yes of course, its fine with me. because some words are better expressed in english in order to undertand it completely and i wouldnt agree with you if you say it sounds stupid, becuase its just awkward sometimes to speak in pure tagalog.

hirap din nman intindhin ang ibang tagalog eh.

it's ok to speak in Taglish, as long as you are understood. most of the Tagalog words do not have direct english translation so they speak in Taglish..

at first, i'm irritated by some people who use taglish but later on, i realized that there are some words that i don't really know how to pronounce.

i go loony
I would understand if some of the words are said in English because the speaker finds it awkward to state his or her words in Tagalog for they may sound deep. But a sentence with 50-50 of Tagalog and English would sound really really bad. It irritates me too much while these people who speak this way do this in an attempt to impress. If the person can't really speak English straight, he or she would rather speak in Tagalog ann if a person can't do it in Taglog straight, why not just speak English?

I have a very great respect towards any other languages and Taglish, I guess is a pollution to both English and Tagalog.

pero_102
we don't monopolize this technique, in fact, it's prevalent around the globe, just like singlish-singapore english, indlish-indian english, ruslis-russian english, etc./

that people use taglish is an indication of laziness. they begin speaking in one language and finish it using another language. they are familiar with both languages, and in speaking, they utter the first word that comes to mind, whether tagalog or english, and not think hard in the language they begin with. actually it works for them, for they are able to express their thoughts fast. the ideal should be that we speak in only one language at one time, and be guided by the rules and idiosyncracies of that language. this needs discipline. but there are those who think that language is first and foremost communication, and anything that helps you to get your message across, is good enough, thus taglish. my advice is that we can use taglish, as long as we use it sentence by sentence, (that is, one complete sentence in tagalog, followed by a complete sentence in english) and not combine both in one sentence. kasi, diba? you know na sometimes, talagang annoying sa tenga especially kung maarte yung pagkasabi if minimix natin yung ating mga words sa isang sentence lang.

on another note, there is the taglish used by most kolehiyalas, like, "i'm making biro lang naman," which is becoming prevalent in the television shows. My theory is that this started with the pupils from the exclusive schools. The maid, aka Yaya, who comes from the province goes with the rich brat to school everyday. The family speaks in english, and so Yaya has to learn english as well. But Yaya has a difficulty, and so concocts her own way of speaking, and so reprimands her ward by saying, "Sige ka, last na 'to. I'll make sumbong-sumbong to your Daddy when we come home na talaga ba." Since the little seniorita has more contact with the yaya than with the parents, she is influenced by the way the yaya speaks, and learns the technique, and realizes that all her friends do the same. they add the twang, make it sound more sosyal. there! Mabuhay ka, Yaya.
