I really like the Philippine mango best, the 'kalabaw' variety. I have had mangoes from many countries and although they are good, (taste like a sweeter and huge variety of the sort we call Indian mango) 'kalabaw' variety for me is the best. It is so sour when it is green that when it turns ripe, it has this complex sweetness which gives it the best flavor.
On another note, re bananas - La tondan variety.
I found out that people from non-tropical countries found naturally ripened sweet 'la tondan' tastes strange (kinda sour) to them. They are used to the 'Cavendish' bananas we ignore at the markets. they look nice but tastes bland.
'Kalabaw' is the best. (don't now it's scientific name) :)) |

Your country has very good Mango's. I live in Taiwan. I taught some workers from the Government Department of Agriculture English so they could go to your country and learn to grow Mango's then come back and teach the Taiwanese farmers how to grow them. I like the Philippines Mango's. When I worked in Iraq I had some Pakistani Mango's They were very good too.

=)) is this an ad?
Seriously, I crave for Philippine mangoes only. Here in the Middle east we get Egyptian. Kenyan and Indian yellow (and green!) mangoes. They almost taste like nectarine (at least for my tastebuds!).
There's no comparison with the sweetness of our mangoes; more so with the ones from Guimaras. |

We have pretty good mangoes here in the Bahamas, but I still say my favorite is what we called "Cebu" mango when we lived there.
I found some dried Filipino mango in my health food store; it's an okay substitute, but not quite the real thing.
(I also like the green mango with salt and vinegar!) |

The mangoes and the bananas from the Philippines are my favorite and then comes the fruit juices.
Having spent 3 weeks in the Philippines when I married my husband, I ate a lot of the fresh fruit, and I must say that they have spoiled me on how sweet and delicious they taste.
I was highly disappointed when I returned to the States and ate the store ripened fruit being sold there, they were bland and had no real flavor at all. |
