There are so many "sanitary" options...... this would be my very last choice. Beyond being gross and an indication of lack of class , it is unsanitary and selfish.

why would you spit on the floor wherever you are? i think it's rude to do it anywhere...

If it is a resto, I go for the tissue paper box and spit there and throw the tissue in the proper place, which should be a trash can. If there is no tissue box, I use my hankie. If I don't have a handkerchief, I go for the toilet. If there is no toilet, I go for the window. If there is no window, I go for the door and damn that place forever!

no...if you need to spit you should excuse yourself and head to the restroom then spit into a napkin and throw it away...

Not when I'm in a public place. In the woods, occasionally, but never on a sidewalk or something.

No way...that's why I always have a tissue with me...just in case...
Although I'm in a country in Asia that spitting is not a taboo so everyone I mean the locals...just spit anywhere etc. malls, classrooms....I just can't bring myself to do the same....
It still gives a chill whenever I hear "that sound".

Oh no. Never done. And why would anyone have to swallow? Maybe the person should see a doctor if he or she is unnecessarily producing saliva.

I don't spit on the floor in my home or when I'm in public. I was raised better than that. If I'm going to spit, I spit into the toilet or into a tissue if I'm not near a toilet.

No, I don't. I find that very disgusting. I had experienced (unknowingly) stepping on someone's saliva and it really made me shudder in disgust. I can't understand how some people can be so callous or unethical to spit on the streets specially with one that includes sticky phlegm (ugh!). Fortunately, there are city ordinances in some cities that fine you when caught spitting on the sidewalks or streets.

As to swallowing your saliva, don't we do that all the time? But if I really need to spit out "whatever" immediately, I use tissues or tissue paper that I always keep in my bag for "emergencies". Better that than to bother people with your thoughtlessness.

No. Seeing someone spit is gross, and I'm embarrassed if I spit, (I usually try to make sure I am not out in the open while doing it) But sometimes it is unavoidable.
