No, if the 16-year-old feels that they are able to work and still go to school at the same time, it can be a valuable experience to teach responsibility. |

Not too young at all, but at 16, it is not the time to work ....it is the time to get educated, to get exoerience of the ways of the world...and to develop a good character ..... |

I also got my first job at 16. The job was one of the worst in the world but it paid and gave nice overtime. if your looking to learn the ways of jobs (interview, co-workers, retail, etc.) I think you should because you also learn about a pay check and really what a dollar is worth, when its your own dollar!!!!
Hope it goes well for ya! |

It depends. In Massachusetts where I grew up, I could start working at 14, but could not work more then 20 hours per week and could not work past 7pm. These were laws put in place to make sure that young people such as myself would not be exploited for cheap labor. I do think it can be valuable to work as a teenager, it teaches responsibility and the value of a dollar. However, if it takes away from education or health, unless it is absolutely necessary, I believe 16 may be too young. But then again at 18, you may have no choice. |
