this is the sad reality in this country. if you go to a private hospital, this will happen to you.
in government hospitals, bills are lesser but you have to buy your own medicines and supplies. |

No, I actually think hospitals should set up some type of free medical program for people. I don't think anyone should be denied their right to medical help because they may not have the money at the time. |

No. that's crazy, patient that they're going to detain will just take up space and incur more bills that they can't afford.
Government should pay, that's why we have taxes to take care of the old people and poor and assist them. But our Govt is so CORRUPT!!!! |

Private Hospital =Yes. They recieve no public funding.
Public Hospital = No They do recieve public funding.
Reguardless of my personal opionion it is Illegal now to hold a patient due to nonpayment of bills. But if a person is too poor to pay the bill, how would they pay for a lawyer ?
There are still hospitals continuing this Illegal Detention, but who is going to stand up and stop them ? |

What would the point be? Either the guy has money, or he doesn't. Going through credit people is better at determining why the person hasn't paid the bill, and if measures can be taken or not.
If you hold him ransom, all he will be doing is eating away at your resources because guess whose food he will be consuming, whose floor he will be occupying, and whose water he will be drinking? (or she, whatever...) |

i don't think they should do that. i think that they should give you a certain amount time to pay the bill. there is this place in the hospital where wealthy people make donations to the people who cant pay there bills.it kind of like a donation |

Definitely not, the longer they stay in the hospital, the bigger their bill will incur, and if they dont have money to pay, what use will it be. Let them go and let collection agency try and collect the payments or arrange payment options with them, if it doesnt work, then the hospital can sue them, however if they really dont have the means to pay, there should be agencies that should be able to help. |

No because majority of the people doesn't have the means to pay for their bills. I was watching TV Patrol last week and there was a portion there about hospitals going on "holiday". I don't think that should be approve because it's not right for them to not accept patients just because they can't pay. And I do agree that hospitals should have charity care if not free services for those people who can't afford to pay for hospital bills. Remember that the majority of the Philippine families are below poverty line therefore they can't afford to pay the bills up front. I think the government should set aside funds for people that doesn't have the money instead of detaining them until they can pay their bills. |

no - i do think its unfair that hospitals give insurance companies discounts - i feel they should have to pay the same amount a non insured person pays - ( example - inscurance company gets charged $800. for a broken hand while non insured gets charged $1750 ) |

No. They have no right to do that, it is very inhuman. To make sure that those patients pay their bills, let them sign promissory notes, not detain them. In some cases, a mother leaves her newborn baby as guarantee that she comes back and pay her bills. What I hate most is when an emergency arises and before the patient can be administered first-aid or examined by the resident doctor, a member of the patient's family has to make a deposit. Now, who could even think of bringing a huge amount during an emergency?! I hope the government will look into this matter and do something about it. Aren't hospitals supposed to attend to a patient in an emergency before it can ask for a deposit? |

And incur more expenses from their staying in hospital and feeding them?
How about getting funding to help those who cannot afford to pay? |

all individuals should pay for medical insurance so that they may have something to lean on in times like this.
hospitals are not charitable institutions, they pay taxes, bills, services of medical personnel and so forth.
i just wonder why so much citizens would not like to pay taxes or cheat or their taxes, bribe their way out of a crime and then complain at all cost that the government administration is very very corrupt,
hospitals do not admit or detain patients for economic reasons, many patients abuse the policy of the law on hospitals, knowing they can not afford a private ward would insist on it and then fail to meet or would like to run away from their obligation. Some hospitals "release" their patients on the agreement of "promissory note" but it is said only less than 5 % return and pay the obligation. It's even interest free.
Our laws have many flaws, hospitals are penalized whenever they refer another patient to another hospital under varied reasons. One major reason I think is that politicians are afraid to lose their votes so that is why I strongly recommend that those who pay income taxes are the only ones who can vote. Why would somebody have the priviledge to command someone he's not paying.? |
