Growing up I played football, baseball, basketball almost everyday with my friends. Now kids just stay indoors and play video games or surf the net all day. Yeah its depressing!!!! |

I think it's the sign of the times.
But isn't it much healthier to stay indoors because of pollution, UV rays, aliens, vampires, loose pandas, and monsters? |

Naah, not too much depresses me, so that wouldn't do it ... but I agree with you, kids should get out into the world and not just be computer nerds. They should be hunting, fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, campign, stuff like that. I did all that stuff as a kid and still do. |

Dear Vandalhartz,
Schöne Grüsse aus Deutschland !
I would rather have my kid in his room than outside for one reason:
Pedophiles!!!! We have a lot of them here where we live. These people
will not leave your kid alive --- so they won't be caught. My kid goes out only with me or my husband to parks where he can run and play. I also used to play in the streets patintero when I was a kid, hide and seek in our backyard, Ger-base in the fields, climbed trees, and so many others. I really wish my kid can experience these things but we living in this asphalted jungle (the big city). |

The times are not the same like when we were still young. These days kids are better off when they are at home. Young ones are prone to
dangers like child molesters, kidnappers and rapists. The older ones
are prone to hang around with friends and learn drinking, smoking and taking drugs. And one day they come and surprise you wuth these words: I have fathered a baby. But there is also trouble keeping them at home, they become addicted to pc games that are so brutal and full of violence. As a parent, sometimes, you cannot choose what should be the best for your kids. |

it doesn't depress me at all... what depresses me more are the kids playing on the streets all day long because they don't have any house to come home to after they play... |

Yes it is. That is why I encouraged my daughter to go into sports and other activities that will make sure she does not grow up a geek.
When we are out on vacation, we play tumbang preso. When with the clan, we even do patintero. |

Kids in the provinces still play outside.
It's only those living in urban Manila who get fat while munching Lays and playing online games/Wii/PS3. |

You're generalizing. Lots of kids do still play outside. Unfortunately some single Mothers (and others) get a little paranoid about the world and force their child into solitary confinement for their childhood. That is the sad part of it. They don't need to play "in the streets" anyway. They're playing outside. Somewhere. Maybe you just don't see them. That don't mean it doesn't happen.
BTW, the internet is the worst scourge to mankind since television. Ever heard of a library? It has all the stuff the interned has (less porn and pedos) and has been there the entire time. |

Yeah, actually it is - well at least that's what I feel. I feel sad for kids who didn't know the pure bliss of patintero, sekyu, shatong (that stick game - i forgot the Tagalog name), langit-lupa, taguan, tumbang-preso. Playing those games were unadulterad fun. There is always laughter, pwera na lang kung lagi kang taya. And those were exercise on the side pa. I just love to see kids suddenly running wild in all directions away from the it. |

i think its very sad.
while video games are interactive in their own way, i think its strange how a kid will get so sucked in, he will play for hours and hours.
if i have children, i would definitely limit the amount of tv/video games. its important to play outdoors. |

It isn't safe to allow kids to play on the streets these days. And I also think that they will just obstruct traffic flow. Better to let them play computer games, at least, we know where they are and away from harm. |

Why would that be depressing?
Yea, kids shouldnt be on the computer as much as they are. But being on it doesnt hurt. |

I used to be a kid who played online games all day long, and yes, it was depressing. Then there was a blackout, and we were forced to go outside because it was too hot inside the house. We played all afternoon. The fulfillment I got from winning a street game was way better than from winning Ragna or RF or even those PC games. When I have kids, I'll make sure they get to play outside very often. |

blame those dimwitted software developers.
they care about nobody's future.
it's just money that they're after. |

Bummer again

don't think it's depressing..
