as long as you girl stick together and dun go to those dark & dimly lit areas.

also beware of the local guys, once you start talking to them, they will start to bug you or harass u..... keep a safe distance from them... they will wolf whistle and start calling out to u at times when you are passing by... just ignore them and keep walking......

when you are out drinking in clubs or pubs, always hold on to your drinks and dun leave it unattended. You never know who might drop a drug into your drinks.

Do not bring too much cash with you, best to have a travel money pouch that is not visible.
do not dress too revealing... this will only bring u unneccesary attention.

i always go to Phuket with 1 or 2 othr girlfriends. so these are the precautions we normally take.

nope! it's ok! we hv been there (2-3 gals all the time) like 5 times. it's safe there! many many tourists......just dun go to some quiet places in the dark. usually those resorts had their own shuttle to the shopping area (Patong). n u can even rent a motor bike / car in a v cheap price & drive aro the island. no map, but u won't lose ur way.......it's easy!

It is very safe, just use your heads and do not put yourselves in dangerous position like walking on a beach alone at night. Men that go to Thailand are more interested in Thai women and there is also a lot of Russian and Eastern European women that take working holidays in Thailand. So I do not believe that you will not be bothered much.Come on down you will not regret it . A smile goes a long way in Thailand. Good Luck Have Fun.

yes, i think you will be fine. stay with crowds, wear other tourists stay / are in your company. don't get mixed up with any guys/ drugs .

Phuket is a great place to discover (make sure you go sea canoeing where you go into beautiful limestone caves). You should be fine as long as you are smart about your safety. When you go to a bar/club, just watch out for each other. Stay with the crowd and don't go wandering off at night.

I had done that several times & always back safe & sound. Just ignore those who try to chat-up with you. Sometimes, being too friendly to them will cause yourself trouble.

I was on a tour up north and there was a 17 year old girl traveling alone. If you act like you know what your doing and stay away from the kind of places you would stay away from in the states you'll be fine.

I'll answer you as best I can here. These posts are flat so please do not be offended by what I say here as it is intended as positive towards you and your friend. you may email me as well if you wish.

Phuket is very very safe. As with any tourist area there are dangers but they are the common ones and you have nothing to fear from western male tourists there. What you should be careful of is not driving a a motor bike after drinking or swimming alone.

Despite what you may think Phuket is not a Roman Orgy crawling with shaddy and depraved western men in search of opportunites to degrade women.

Rather Phuket (used to be more fun when it wasn't quite so busy) is a great place to go these days in low season. The western men you see will for the most part have no interest at all in you or your friend. My experience is that they will be courteous and happy to help should you need anything but aside from that you will be invisible to them.

The scene in Phuket is very different than what you seem to be expecting. Like I said I would not be surprised if you had trouble even chatting up western guys while your there unless you go out of your way to do so or hang out with back packers.

I'm happily married to a Thai and we sometimes go to Phuket with our family. I've found Phuket to be safe if over subscribed in the high season. I prefer Koh Samui as it is more laid back.

Finally I want to say this respectfully and politely and mean no offense:

The western men you see will largely ignore you as most of the men going there tend to perceive western women as too self absorbed and high maintence to waste time with while in Thailand.

Thai ladies tend to be fun and full of life and many are seeking a western husband. The impact of this is that the traditional advantages and control of men that western women enjoy in Europe or America are not available to them in any way in Thailand or most of Asia for that matter.

For example I'm one of "those guys" that hang out with Thai women (woman now since I married a Thai). I'm in senior managment of a fortune level company, I'm a father, and work very hard to support my family. There are a lot of guys like me there and there are many who are far far more successful than I am just sitting there enjoying the evening with their Thai friends.

Even today on holiday my wife and I are happy to hit the pubs talk to the Thais and patrons in Phuket and have a nice time. There is somethign ther efor everyone but I don't think I really want to be there much in High Season agian, just too many people.

You'll find that there are a lot of us meeting this description there in addition to the many world weary expats.

You'll find that western men are a highly sought after commodity that many lovely and exotic Asian women compete for earnestly.

Thailand is a true paradise, but one man's paradise may be a lady's lonely holiday.

The irony of Phuket is that as a western woman you may find yourself somewhat isolated. Worrying about the attentions of the western male tourists there is probably the last thing you need to do...

Have you seen the movie Brokedown Palace? Just be careful! I have a friend from Asia who told me once that stuff like that happens all the time there. Also, I'm not sure how old you two are but pedophiles travel there from all around the world because their legal system is so lax about underage sex. They have human trafficing rings, they will kidnap you and make you be a prositute.

Thailand is having some problems right now with terrorism and kidnappings by Islamist fanatics. I wouldn't be going. That being said, if you stay within the confines of a resort you should be OK. Just don't wander off into non-tourist areas. Those disgusting guys you speak of are the so-called sex tourists. They are there for underage Thai girls and boys, not western women. If they could get those, they wouldn't be disgusting sex tourists.
