IT's not appropriate and necessary ,worldwise, not only in Singapore. Not to mention she's home all the time. |

Is she going to have the phone as a toy? |

No. Too young to even hold those kind of gadgets, plus I read somewhere before that it's more dangerous for kids under 8 to use mobile phones because of the radiation thingy. |

Not at all, handphones can cause health damage to young children. It's not advisable to let them start so early.
I think it's only necessary for children to have handphones if they are the eldest in the family and helping to take care of the younger children. Even then, they should be at least 12 years old to become responsible enough. |

In today's modern world, anything's possible & that includes young kids owning a cellphone!
Heck my nephew was given his first laptop at the age of 7=P
Is it necessary? No. Is it proper? To a certain extent. But I would suggest under adult supervision.
As for giving an 8 year-old a cellphone... I guess for emergency usage such as when they're at school, etc but not if the child's always home that's a little too much!
Couldn't the child use the house phone instead, lol?
Whatever it may be there should also be boundaries set & it's up to parents to decide what's best. |

No, definitely NO, he/she's too young to know the usage.
I would suggest, maybe, at age 12 should be appropriate |

No, I don't think is appropriate. I would think it would be a good idea if she is always out let's say in school etc... In case something happen she can call the parents, but that's the only reason.... |

i think no.. if she is always at home.. why want waste extra $ on bills? kids nowadays are getting more n more spoil. at least tat is what i see nowadays.. jus my point of view.
Unless she can give u a valid reason why she need it.. otherwise, really dont see the point of buying her one. |

Depending on situation...
Actually I was quite against the idea of a child having a handphone but recent chatting with some friends with older school going children tells me that it is the school teachers who needs the phone to contact the child. The teachers would prefer to send SMSes instead of calling the students one by one. |

I am against of parents giving in to their children- everything the kids ask, they give without considering whether if its needs or wants...
8 year old is too young to have it especially when the kid is at home most of the time... is it a necessity?
if you decide to give the kid a mobile, think the next qn you ask will be "Her mobile phone bill is too much, should I pay for her? Should I terminate the line as her phone bill is too high?", "Oh, she wants this latest XXX model, it is newer than mine, should I give it to her?!"
think this is also a great opportunity to teach the kids to determine what are the more impt things in life... where parents can start teaching and explaining to the kids on values of life... |

If she is always home why can't she use the house phone? I'm against children having cell phones. |
