Unfortunately there are many ignoramuses who really couldn't be bothered. So, no I don't think this case will affect anything. Lina Joy should just leave this place and go somewhere she is likely to be treated fairly in her decisions and not shunned upon just because it was her right. |

I also agree with Hans,
A large part of why the problems with freedom of speech and religion still exist is the cunning ability of the Malaysian government in putting on a smiling face and brushing problems under the rug discreetly. Secondly they are good at controlling what Malaysians see on TV and hear on radio and even read in newspapers. The internet is the only true medium where independant media originating from Malaysia can exist.
Malaysia has many human rights issues and this government and attitude need to be smacked in the face and told it's no longer acceptable to reat people like this. |

PLEASE consider Hans' answer. He has a point and I totally agree with him.
It should teach the racist regime of the BN government and some ultra supremacist so-called Malaysians a good hell of a lesson. |

Hello
The freedom to choose one religion is always a sensitive issue in Malaysia. I support ones right to choose their own religion and for Lina Joy case, I guess she still has a long way to go fighting for her religious freedom and belief.
Asking here to be judge by Islamic law is really unrealistic. Does it means that once you are born Muslim, you'll need to be Muslim forever including your child or grandchild? Can't we just decide on our own what religion we want?
But, I think the government it quite right in not getting involved this sensitive issue as this case is like a "Pandora box" case. Once open, many will follow suit and the results might be more chaotic and unpredictable.

How serious the Lina Joy case will affect the Malaysian economy remains to be seen. This case has attracted a lot of attention worldwide and there is no doubt that it has dampened Malaysia's reputation. On the foreign front, Malaysia has always been described as a moderate Muslim nation with freedom of worship. Now, we are the laughing stock worldwide. Malaysia has always vigorously defend its human right records whenever the International community particularly the West criticised them. But the verdict of the case tells a different story. |
|

Say what?
 |
it will not affect the economy a slightest bit. but it does affect the awareness among those who found themselves similarly in her shoes towards the issue of the case.
lina joy is a victim of circumstances here, converting to a different religion is her choice no doubt. she should have just declared mykad missing and make a new one declaring she is a christian. personally i think that mykad should not state one's religious status. besides, u wont need a mykad status to enter hell nor heaven. even if my ic states that i am a muslim, it is still not a passport for me to go to heaven.
she lost the case because the case has made public and attracted so much publicity that the court needs to balance it thoroughly. Allowing it would be too risky for the benefit of the public. |

Hey Sand.... you got to be kidding right?!!! Lina Joy has a right to choose what ever she wishes. Do you choose whatever you wish? She has the right to choose. The Malaysian government is the one that causes it to wreck, just because of some stupid law that stunned freedom of choice and religion.
Malaysia is a free country, not confine under muslim law. |

I totally agree with you hans. Human rights abuse in Malaysia is quite high. They don't have freedom of speech as a matter of fact. |

I m curious about your country's law on this as somebody told me that the constitution requires a malay to be muslim. So he or she is not a muslim, that mean she or he is not a malay? If this happen what race does this person belong to? That mean the malay are not defined as a race as whole but muslim, so if you are a malay and not a muslim then you are totally out of my gang. Then muslim should be called a race and not malay. Then should be called ketuanan muslim?!? OH i am so confused with your country's laws that really enticed me to read further! Very interesting! |

The international community should unite and impose economic sanctions on Malaysia for its human rights violations. |
