I think that a lot of politicians are corrupt but not all. Some politicians actually do some good to the Philippines.

windblown
Sadly, yes. Why?

chliff
yes just look at our roads here everytime a new oficial sits they realign the funds and so on.

Big B
The Philippines does have a high level of corruption.

But that corruption is ingrained into the political, economic and cultural system. Because the Philippines is run by powerful political and economic families that keep power within their own hands, its hard for others outside of those groups to get anywhere without major support.

Classic example - current President Arroyo, the daughter of a former President.

Corruption in pi is also self-perpetuating because of the patron-client system, where the rich and powerful provide help and favours in return for political votes at election time.

Because of wide spread poverty and low wages, corruption in endemic through the lower levels of society. A friend told me that if i gave the Police Chief of the Barangay two bottles of scotch it would help me gain a licence in the phillppines - to fast track it.

But, until the day when the system is changed gradualy and wages improve, and the patron-client system is ended and democracy finally takes a hold in pi, corruption will always continue.

Absolutely. No doubt about it.

The government is corrupt, and I think that it has effected the way some businesses operate, therefore themselves becoming corrupt.

a very big YES

i go loony
Corruption happens everywhere because people in certain positions are tempted to use the money they don't own. And the fact that politicians are big people in the society, the citizens can't do things that would stop the crap going around.

All countries are corrupt.

unean_amigo
Yes. How in the earth would those politicians ever afford tickets and even suites in upscale hotels in Las Vegas when Pacman has a boxing bout? Why do you think that the roads are always undone?

And why do you think the Philippines is poor?

I am a Filipino American who grew up here in the Philippines. I love the Philippines. I didnt go right away in the US! However, with the present economic and political situation in our country. Everybody are now thinking not only of themselves but also of the future generation!
Successful doctors are into the nursing course since it is the easiest way out of the country. They want to save their children and grandchildren since we dont have any future here in the Philippines.

I had seen the political people. Some people would act like having a medical mission, however, their purpose is not solely to help but to win for another reason. RELIGIOUS people trying to show off that they are praying the rosary say bad words to other people, some people who wash their feet on Holy Week in the church, CHEAT other people and only use the CHURCH for their own personal reason.
I hate to say but according to the news we live in the #1 most corrupt country in the world.
Election is around the corner and Filipinos really have to see whom to vote!

Galbi
heck yeah. that shouldn't even be a question

What's at stake in a Philippine election?

Prizes and surprises! Millions in cash! Dream houses! The vacations of your choice! Fun for the entire family! That's from the politician's point of view ;>
