Unfortunately, yes its common here in the Philippines. Like, some Tagalog people think they are better than Visaya people. Plus, a lot of Catholic Filipinos discriminate against Moros and Badjaos (Muslim tribes of the Philippines)

Plus that's not it, foreigners have racials issues against the Filipinos as well. Remember the DESPERATE HOUSEWIVE incident? If so, maybe this youtube video can help you recall everything:

Yes! everywhere in the world. It's "nature".
"Birds of the same feather flock together"
"Survival of the fittest"
"Good against evil" And so on.

But we can live with it as "Humans", but wait that will put us on top of the food chain! Here we go again.
Just live your life to it's fullest.
Peace!

Yes! I was on the Intermediate Lounge in Literati few days ago and there is that person saying that Tagalog is an ugly language and Philippines is a dirty country. He even said that there is no good thing about the Philippines even its language! I've also seen in a forum that someone is saying that Philippine's is hopeless and it sucks for having a woman as a president, people are dirty and everywhere you look is dirty.

kamagong
I have to say Yes but it's not the way racism is defined here in the US. Our racial issue in the Philippines may be summed up in this antiquated phrase "White is better!"

(y)
Yes. They charge white people more for goods and services on a routine basis and they see nothing wrong with it. They don't accept the fact that its racial prejudice.

kentenooo
unfortionately everyone,EVERYONE,has race issues,I don't know why it is so,anyone who says their not is a liar! we should not make it an issue, only in that way can we hope to change.jd confirms my speculations,is it not so?

Madara 地ç„少女
yes racial issues is very common in the philippines

Sweetharttt
I would imagine so. We all still have a long way to go as a people.

warrior is a child
yes. it is still prevalent up to now.

racism against Filipinos by the westerners and other countries.

racism that exists among filipinos. e.g Tagalogs who discriminate those from the lowlands or the indigenous people.

well for me there's a racial discrimination here cause even those Filipinos they discriminate other Filipinos that has brown skin even their selves have the same color of skin it is because that's what the Spaniards tell us when they occupied our country. that's why even now we keep on discriminating our own color. cause when Spaniards live here the brown men for them is a low class people.

RACIAL ISSUES..?

needless to say, it's everywhere.

of course, Philippines is not exempted.

Yes, of course, just like anywhere else in the world. The type that is prevalent here is mild. Filipinos have always have a low self-image, thus the type of racism here is Middle-Down, as opposed to the Top-Down racism prevalent in Western countries. By Middle-Down we mean Filipinos look down only on those darker than them in complexion but look up on anyone with skin fairer than his.

Some people say this is the result of centuries of colonialism but I beg to disagree because documents available to us that pertain to race relations before the Spanish contact tend to indicate it is not so. Pigafetta, arriving in the 1521 noted how the women of Cebu already showed preference for white men rather than their kind. The lowest sort of slave in the pre-colonial Philippines had been those with the blackest of skin such as the Negritos and natives of the Maldives and Andaman Islands who had been brought here by slave traders. Slaves who had fairer skins had greater chances at social mobility, in fact some Spaniards enslaved by Filipinos after having been left behind by previous expeditions were said to have been treated not as harshly as those with darker skin, and were even allowed to marry the daughters of their slave masters after a period of service. Having mixed blood is also considered a social advantage locally, in contrast with the way other Asian countries treat their half-breeds. On the other hand, Filipinos laugh down on anyone with skin darker than theirs. While they tend to glorify Pure Whites, mestizos and Chinese, they laugh at Black Americans. At the lowest of the pecking order is of course the native pygmies such as the Negritos, otherwise known as Aetas, Balugas, Dumagats, etc. During the Spanish period, whole communities of Chinese used to be regularly massacred by order of the Spaniards and impressed on the natives a racial disdain for Chinese, but because of the prevailing notion about the value having a white skin, this particular race-based bias quickly disappeared as soon as the Spanish regime ended. SAince then, no incidents of anti-Chinese riots have ever been recorded in Philippine history.

Unfortunately, many who answered your question got it all wrong. The traditional bias between Tagalogs and Bisayans, Cebuanos and Boholanos does not constitute racial discrimination but rather regional. The Christian-Muslim divide is caused by religious difference, and the anti-Americanism spouted about in Leftist-oriented rallies is political.

There are other variations of dicrimination in the Philippines but racial issue seems not to be part of these - i.e. for as long as your race type belongs to the upper part of the scale.

sexybutt
There is no racial issue in the Philippines...it's just impossible 'coz a lot of foreigners live here (some of them are even naturalized citizens) and they get along with Filipinos very well.

Here in the Philippines? Nope.

Discrimination here involves the poor vs. the rich. But racism, nope.

I don't think so. Who would we be discriminating against? We were born a brown race so we can't look down on dark people. Anyway, we never do because of skin color but others do because of social status. Like some rich (very and the not so) belittling the poor.
