I'm going to go crazy if I have to correct the misconception AGAIN that chewing gum is permissible in Singapore! It's just illegal to sell chewing gum here. Consumption is OK. Spitting and littering the chewed gum is not. ARGH. The ignorance of people with the law.

Food prices are pretty standardized in Singapore(as long as you dun eat in hotels or restaurants) Almost everywhere in Singapore, you can get fed from $3 a meal. If you include drinks, it should cost no more than $5.

Cheap electronics are to be found in Sim Lim square. It's near Bugis. You'd walk a distance and through one of the most colorful places of Singapore, Bugis Village.

Singaporeans are friendly and you can ask anybody for directions if you are lost or unsure. They will try their best to help.

Don't try smuggling drugs into that country! It's punishable by death.

Otherwise, have fun.

Singapore... Don't Chew Gum! I'm not sure if its still law or not, but last i knew if you chew gum you will get punished. Its not just a ticket either, they will beat you with a stick, I think just for gum its 5 or 7 lashes to your butt!! They don't care who you are or where your from. Also, respect the country when you are there... you will see that they have amazingly clean cities due to strict laws, and the people there are very nice.

u can get cheap ipod nano probably at sim lim square or mustaffa centre (24hrs). for cheap & good food u dun hv necessarily go to the malls, u can have it @ those hawker centres which i find that the food are much nicer compared to those in the malls. or hei..the fastfood like mcdonalds or kfc is still ok

Welcome to Singapore. if you are coming in the next couple of months, you are in for the Great Singapore Sales - where all departmental stores in Singapore will sell their stuffs at a reduced price.

If you want to shop for electronic products, there are a couple of places you can visit. Funan IT Mall is good for laptops, mp3 players and camera. Another place to visit is Sim Lim square. Both places are 2 miles away from it other.

Places to eat ? Tons of it. Visit the local hawker centres. The food there is really cheap in price and nice in quality.

Now is the Great Singapore Sale. Lots of good bargains.
Shop at Mustafa Shopping Centre. Its cheap and opens 24/7.
Good cheap food just outside Mustafa Centre walk towards the hawker centre, Tekka Market. It's a 10 mins walk, by the time you reach the Tekka Market you would have seen lots of cheap Indian food shops along the way. Enjoy your trip and have good fun in Singapore.

In S'pore, food is generally cheap, just stay away from the hotel's restaurant.

By the way, 'Kendall' made S'pore sound so scary. Unfortunately, he didn't get his facts straight before shooting his mouth off. Its ok to chew gum, just can't sell. Regarding caning, whats wrong with going to another country & respecting their rules & culture? Would you like it if I come to ur home & piss all over your carpet? And its not true that you can't smoke in public as well. Just not in air-conditioned environment(except clubs & lounges), in qeaues & generally in places where food are served. Use your good judgement, be socially responsible.

A lot of the things they sell there are knockoffs, it's pretty funny. One guy at a stand tried to sell me a Calvin Klein purse that mispelled it as "Cavlin Klein". lol. They also have a lot of generic brand mp3 players. Name brand things are actually more expensive in Singapore than the US, expecially in malls. If you want to eat good, cheap food, your best bet is just the simple places around the condominiums, make sure it looks clean, the food is suprisingly declicous. But don't go to the Hawkus (<misspelled) centers! They are dirty and smell like garbage and fish. If you want to go to a ritsy, high-class place, there's this place called "High Tea", it's on the 70th floor of this extravagant hotel. It has a spectacular view of Singapore, you can see the whole island. Best resturant I've ever been to. Good luck, have fun!
