Not really. It's just Colonial Mentality.

We need to shake off our Colonial mentality because the number of pure-blooded Filipinos is really depleting. Everyone's really so into Americans right now, such a pity.

We need to shake off our Cultural Dependency on Westerners are build on ourselves a new beauty standard which blends in with our natural color and features - this is what we consider as real beauty inside and outside.

Not necessarily. It's just that by nature we want what we don't have. While whites go bake themselves under the sun to get the color we have, us asians put different chemicals on our skin to get the color they have. Weird, isn't it?

By the way, this desire to have a lighter skin tone is prevalent in most of Asia, not just the Philippines. You should know what they do in China, Japan and Korea to do this.

depends on the skin tone. some pinay look good with lighter color some look better if they are brown/tan.

well, it all depends... For a person who has average looks, it is a plus if she / he looked lighter... For a beautiful woman, she doesn't need to get lighter... Those who long for a lighter skin are not so pretty, I bet ... and if their skn tone changes, it will amaze people who go for "white is right"....

it really depends on the taste of the person observing... personally I am more attracted to "Morenas" beacuse of their natural type of beauty... just look at Alicia Myer and Daisy Reyes...

No. Being attractive is not base on having a light or dark colored skin. It's the perception of a person that makes another person attractive. You have to be satisfied of what you have and not be envious of other people. Maybe it's just coincidence that every Pinays that you run into are light-colored but there are a lot of Pinays who are dark-colored and attractive as well. So it depends on how you look at people, if you choose for them to be ugly in your eyes then that's what your going to see. But if you consider every part of them, not just the color, facial features, and sexiness, then you will find them attractive.

Leftover from the Spanish and American era. Count having a flat nose and short stature as part of this bias. Personally I love the golden brown flawless skin associated with 19 year old Filipina beauties.

It is nice to have light skin, it makes you attractive and it attracts the attention of most people you pass by or come in contact with. We native Filipinos always admire light-skinned women. However, most foreigners prefer the opposite. The truth is, black is beautiful. I have seen many dark-skinned women and noticed their features quite well. Often, they have nice attractive eyes (smiling eyes) and almost-perfec-shaped face. They just don't get noticed because the color of their skin do not easily attract attention. But still, they are pretty.
