Purple Tactics

Doesn't it annoy you that a lot Filipinos unnecessarily and excessively use the word "medyo"?

I remember watching a PBA game a few years back and I also recall that the commentators used the words "medyo" (slightly) when there is no need to use it and at the dumbest of circumstances.
Example...
Jaworski hits a 3 pointer.
Comment: "Medyo naka-iskor si Big-J dun ah!"
Marlou Aquino block a shot by Johnny A.
Comment: "Yung tira ni Abarrientos medyo nasupalpal ni Marlou on that attempt".

And it's everywhere too...
Medyo nahuli kami nung pulis sa kanto.
Medyo tinikman ko yung luto nya.
Medyo natapunan sila nung kape.
Medyo nag-gala kami kanina.
Medyo pinadalahan ko siyo ng text message.

Also the usage of the words "parang", "tila"and "kung baga" are irritatingly used too much.

Now, I wrote A LOT of Filipinos do this... not all, I know so spare me the lecture.

Kung baga, "where else but only in the Philippines"

Dont worry kabayan, I found out that British, Canadians and Americans were never always perfect with their English. And even some Chinese that I met admits that they are not always right with their grammar when they speak Mandarin, (their national language).

lol. Maybe because using "medyo" makes a sentence sound neutral (can't find a good term). Sometimes, when I don't like a person, I'd often say to a friend, "Medyo naiinis ako sa kanya," so that I won't sound too harsh about my my feelings.

It's not irritating at all..Only if you know how to use it in a proper way...Medyo can be means of an expression too. That's why it's being used often..Just like in America, they always used that word"Kind of"... I kind of like that",Kind of like him'',..It's the same thing.....'Medyo nakaiskor si Jowarski'They might thought,he's not that great or did well during that game,So the word "medyo" was used....
And your medyo nahuli kami ng pulis(totally wrong grammar already)
It's supposed to be..'Muntik na kaming nahuli ng pulis sa kanto.)
Some people they just don't know how to use the word well,And turned-out to be different...
ginagamit nilang expression, kahit minsan di naman nababagay sa salita nila....And no one seemed to bother much about this coz, they thought it's kinda cool...'Parang' is same as "It seems like" or "I think".If you are a 'pure' Filipino,u should know how to use those, and understand the word better...Slang natin yun dun...At marami pang iba,na wala sa diksyonaryo,Gawa na ng tao...But It's always fun using it,only If you know how...

Inday
medyo asar ka yata, PT....hahaha...let it go, newluv...it's just an expression...oh, it might interest you to know na medyo love pa rin kita (yeah, I still do....hahaha). CHEERS!

It's just the 'in' word that people from that place are getting used to it. Like "damn", "yo", "kinda"... whatever. Spare those people too,PT. Being a stranger in your own country makes you insensate. <*-*>

No, it doesn't annoy me at all. Sorry.

Reminds me of people who are doing everything else so moderately. And it is part of our charm as a people.

it's just like the use of the word 'like' here in the US... especially the teens, they keep on saying 'like', 'like', 'like' on every sentences...

I use 'medyo' too, often...

Santa Bee
Medyo mahirap ang tanong mo.
English mo nalang, please....

not an inch of annoyance, but what concerns me is the excessive use of the word "ANO". its fascinating actually, that we can understand each other using "ANO" to replace words.

the lowdown? we get short on adjectives & adverbs..everything cool becomes 'astig'. there are proper terms that should be used but are now forgotten. so sad.

Ω allan y
a little. i think we should rethink that usage.

exodus
Medyo nakaka annoy nga ang "medyo".

May isa pa: "Nagugatom na ako, promise"

hindi ah. ni hindi ko nga napansin eh. Pinoy kasi ayaw ng diretsahan...naiilang... wala namang masama. di ba?

Filipinos are "sensitive" we don't want to hurt anybody and like please everyone. It's a culture that is often misinterpreted by frank people.

"Medyo, parang, tila, kung baga" are very play safe words. They neutralize our statements.

We are also very adaptive so when people say "medyo" and uses it as an expression we easily adopt it.

And no it doesn't annoy me because I know and I understand why it is being said by many.

Medyo...the answer to your first question. Only the Tagalog 's use it. Not the rest of the Filipino language or dialects.
