Of course, man. And I would have answered this question earlier, but both my hands weren't clean, they were smudged with ketchup, grease, chocolate, sugar, creamer, some black sauce, and stuff.
And I don't use my entire hands, just my palms. |

YES!!!
I lived and worked in Singapore for four years (I was with Singapore Airlines). You know what those pretty Singapore Airlines Malay Stewardesses, they eat their rice with their hands, not in private, but at the airport's food court, in their uniform with full make-up on. and they are proud of it, it is part of their culture. From then on I was never ashamed about using my hands for eating, I am now in Canada and occassionally use my hands when eating my rice even in front of my Canadian co-workers. I am proud of who I am and where I came from.
If you thouroughly wash your hands, they are the cleanest utensil you can use for putting food in your mouth.
It should never be taken as a sign of poor taste, breeding or education. If the Europeans have their knife and fork, Chinese their chopsticks, I have my two clean hands... |

Well, I don't know how you feel about this but I strongly believe that these are best taken with your bare hands: [i swear they seem to taste better!]
1. steamed rice or fried rice with danggit / tuyo / pinakas (daing) & kamatis
2. lechon or liempo / roasted or inihaw chicken / grilled or fried fish with toyomansi sawsawan & rice
3. seafood - crabs, shrimps, shells...and rice
I have no qualms eating with my bare hands at all. And yes even in front of other Filipinos - think food gatherings, lalo na sa beach.
But I have some sort of personal quirk. If I start using my hands during a meal, I can't pick up my spoon and use it in between. I hate the icky feeling when my soiled hand grabs the spoon. So I normally eat the wet food (rice with soup) first using the spoon and then eat the dry foods with my hands freely afterwards. |

Yes, eating with bare hands and banana leaves as plates is the most fun dining i've ever had. |

Yes, at home, when I eat rice and tuyo or pusit, much to the dismay of my
German husband. I don't find anything wrong with it. |

Are you kidding? I do it whenever I can!
Mostly with ribs slathered in bbq sauce, crustaceans, daing na bangus and dry provisions. Although it is pretty self explanatory that untensils are needed for soups and such and for places that requires them i.e. fancy restaurants, etc... |

Not always. Depends on the occasion, venue and some other reasons. |

Why is this considered typically Pinoy?
I eat sandwiches, burgers, chips, crab, fried chicken, fruit, salad, bacon, meat pies, cake, fish, spring rolls along with a vast assortment of other 'finger' foods with my hands. |

i know live in the US but i'm still proud of my heritage. i'm a filipino inside and out. i guess, it's something to be proud of because i know that i will still be able to survive with ease even without a spoon and fork! he-he-he! |

No. I never eat anything with my hands.
I need my hands to hold things I eat. Therefore, I cannot possibly include my hands to those in the menu.
Besides, it's rather painful, don't you think? Imagine eating your own hands! Yuck!!! |

Some food are best taken with your hands. That is what one calls finger foods.
I can't eat "chicharon" with a fork much more with a spoon. That would look really funny. Eating "lechon" (roasted pig) is best using your hands: one hand holding the "lechon" while the other the "puso" (rice wrapped in coconut leaves and cooked in boiling water).
I don't think anyone would laugh at me when they see me using my fingers, almost everyone does it, too. The only important thing to remember is to wash the hands before we dip them into our food. |

... wow depende (depends) what am I eating? Boiled eggs, Boiled duck egg, boiled carrot, fried chicken, barbecue, pizza, baked goods ad stuff like those. Always eating with utensils is way too "civilized". I really mean no offense at all, just an opinion. Lots of people eat with their hands, and wash their hands first. Nice question, though... |

fries, burgers, and pizzas only i guess.
it's kinda gross especially if the viand is wet or sticky. |

Everyday? No - and almost all Filipinos don't.
But most Filipinos do eat with their hands sometimes, especially in "native specialty" restaurants. Unless it's a soup or sauce dish, of course.
A "Filipino" isn't a real Filipino until he learns how to eat with his or her hands. |

Fried chicken, egg rolls, Hot Pockets, french fries, cheese sticks...
I'd say everyone still eats with their hands. |

nothing wrong eating with bare hands as long as one cleans it first and in the right environment. But definitely if it is dinner with spoons etc served.
Try eating with all around you using their bare hands and you would feel awkward with your spoons etc.
I know how to eat with all those spoons, knives, wine glasses and poise and i know how to eat using chopsticks, bayonets only, with hands tied behind my back. Many filipinos can do that as well.
Also with walking barefoot for hours unlike those who grew up on carpeted floors, filipinos are adaptable. |

I guess the practice was born out of convenience and became a unique trademark by Filipinos. I see nothing wrong with it as long as you wash your hands well before eating in an appropriate setting. However if there are utensils offered say in a party then it has to be used. Other cultures do it too. Moroccan restaurants have this practice as well. Has anybody tried eating balut using a fork? Ha ha ha. |

Nope. I think everyone now uses spoons forks and knives.
I eat with my hands when the mood strikes me, but this is very rare.
I think only people from the provinces eat with their hands nowadays. |
