Often Filipinos are referred to as Flippers, Flips etc. These are derogatory. |

It's all in the manner of saying it, I guess. Flip means crazy.
So, if you say it to a friend in a kidding manner, then it wouldn't mean that bad. |

I am a Filipino, too but I am not a flip! Flip is bad. It is not nice to address someone as a flip. |

"Flip" originated way back during the American occupation. "Flip" has a bad meaning to insult the Filipinos. It's like calling African Amercians "black" or the "n" word. |

Imagine pres. Gloria Arroyo addressing the State of the Nation:
We congratulate every Flip elected officials, and the Flip people .....
We, Flips will achieved the hallmark of modern science...
I thank the last Flip congress for the tax reforms...
For each Flip people, wherever you are, must be proud that you are Flip....
If that sounds nice and pleasant to your ears, I think there must be something wrong with you. |

Filipinos are fortunate that the word "flip" does not have the same history or maliciousness attached to it such as the "N" word for blacks or "chink" for the Chinese. That being said, it also depends on its context. Sometimes it could stand for "Funky Little Island People", "Fun Loving Island People" or less preferrably, "Funny Little Island People". Either way though, the word has no power because it has not been associated with any negative context. Lets keep it that way. |

I don't really mind being addressed as "flip", but i'd rather prefer that i'm called Filipino, Filipina, Pinoy, Pinay or by my name :) |

Well. Some people think FLIP stands for F-word Little Island People. So in that case no. But I don't mind at all. I'd rather just called by my name though. :P |

flip?well for me, its not a cool word especially when their referring to us(Filipinos) but we can't blame them bcoz it is visible in some of Filipinos i guess.but I'm not. Filipinos got this unique personality that only Filipinos can easily adapt to other aliens(foreigner)..were one in a million, aren't we? so,to generalize it?no were not flip. filipinos are just too talented to considered that word |
