first of all, i'd like thank you for recognizing the greatness of the filipino people.
i have mixed emotions when i read your question. it makes me proud to be a filipino because others can see the noble acts of filipinos.
it makes me sad because filipino teens nowadays have forgotten how these heroes fought for the freedom we are experiencing today. it makes me sad that the "cancer of society" (as Dr. Jose Rizal says) is still present today. filipinos still think that foreigners are more superior than us. this is what the early colonizers taught our ancestors... that Westeners are far more better than filipinos. until now, it is embedded in our thinking that they are above us. i do hope filipinos will be proud of their great heritage and history.
I agree with you... Filipinos should stand proud. |

I am not Filipino but my wife is and we live in Cebu, I have many nieces and nephews here and it may surprise you to know that every term, they have homework on Jose Rizal. Now I help my nieces and nephews a lot with their homework, and imagine my surprise when I saw how many lady friends he had in his life. Unfortunately my nieces did question this aspect of his life, over and above his achievements. My nephews saw it as an incentive, and again concentrated on that and not his achievements.
I did read somewhere that his eventual wife lived to be 106 years old, but I'm not sure if that was true or not. Anyway with my help they've written some essays on Jose Rizal. All of us should be proud of the heroes and heroines from our nation, but also we should afford due honour to those from other nations.
When my wife lived with me in England, I was pleased that she never forgot her roots, as many do I'm afraid. It is our duty to pass on to future generations all that is good about the country of our birth, and to put events and deeds into perspective, for the period in history, during which they occured.
Never deny your history, it is that which made your country what it is.
Say it loud; say it proud! |

I am sorry I am not Filipino. But by co-incidence, I saw a Holywood film concerning Jose Rizal.
Okay, it was Holywood and starred John Wayne (made in late 40s.) But it actually glorified the part that the Filipinos played in protecting their own country while being ignored by US gvt.
Very good film, I thought.
As for that as***le who replied to your question a few minutes ago, maybe he will grow some pub*c hair soon and his voice will break. Maybe not!KC UK Good Luck! |

I am proud to be a filipino and what you said was very interesting but things here in the Philippines has gone too complicated so you can't blame if people does not follow Jose Rizal's teaching anymore. At least that's what I think as a teenager. But I agree with you, Filipinos are brave people but because of poverty people now lack confidence that's why some people think westerners are better than them. |

I'm a Filipino and proud to be one!
Filipinos are one of the most creative and religious people. We believe in ourselves and love our families dearly. But maybe because of our government, we tend to be divided and our country becomes a mess. But filipinos have a great determination to succeed in everything like what we did in EDSA 1 & 2. I believe that we can surpass this kind of challenge. LONG LIVE JOSE RIZAL! |
