By definition Filipinos are "Asian" not "Pacific Islanders"
FIRST Asia is bordered on the east by the Pacific Ocean. The Philippines is bordered on the east by the Pacific Ocean....ergo part of Asia.
SECOND To be a Pacific Islander you must be from an island " IN " the Pacific Ocean ( actually it is even more specific....Pacific islanders are from Oceania ...a great distance from the Philippines) The Philippines is NOT in the Pacific Ocean.....ergo can not be a Pacific Islander country
THIRD The Philippine government acknowledges that the Philippines is an "Asian country".

The Philippines is not anywhere else but Asia.

Ergo the Filipino people are Asian.

It depends on what the question ask for. If regional to categorize races, then Asian is correct answer. If one of those in islands in Pacific ocean then islander is casual answer. But to be specific, Filipino is the right answer.

I'm Filipino and I consider myself Asian. There are Filipinos that consider themselves Pacific Islanders because well, the Philippines is a bunch of islands located in the Pacific. Remember, though, that these are just labels that try to lump together rich and vast cultures together into one group.

I already answered a question like this before and almost all of the answers were from filipinos and they said that they consider themselves to be Asian..... Look at it this way is there a place actually called Pacific Islanders.....? Not on any globe I ever looked at..... Hope this answers your question....

Asians. I just heard filipinos being called or categorized as pacific islanders only here on Yahoo answers. I found this surprising. That's better than the last one i heard on a different website. Filipinos were called the "mexicans of asia". That would be a more troubling title if it stuck.

Like I said before, those Fil-Ams who consider themselves as Pacific Islanders only want to go around their college's diversity program.

If they enlist themselves as "Asians," they would have lesser chances of getting in the university that they want because there are more smarter Chinese and Koreans around.

Ok, like I said before, Filipinos in the PHILIPPINES consider themselves to be more Asian, spefically more chinese due to wanting be looked at as more noble since China and other Asian countires are wealthier. THATS IS WHY THEY WANT LIGHT SKIN for example (similar to Michael Jackson, lightening of the skin trying to hide the real). I mean for goodness sake, they do renditions of his song in the prisons, there is two good examples. We are Asian thru location and by our LITTLE Malaysian roots. However, we were NOBLE ISLAND WARRIORS, just like those from the PACIFIC. WE are MALAY POLYNESIAN aka AUSTRONESIANS. If you ask people from the Philippines are they proud of the indigenous Filipinos (the mountain people, negritoes, aetas, etc.) most people there will laugh at them. But how can you laugh at the people who are a part of our roots. Stop your colonized way of thinking, we werent savages as the missionaries dubbed us. WE WERE ISLAND WARRIORS who were a part of the discovery of Oceania, aka, Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia and aka guess what? PACIFIC ISLANDS. Listen if you guys in the philippines want to be like Justin Timberlake (without the singing ability) or some other Westerner go ahead, but I will Inform people orf our real culture. Our culture is just not TFC with girls dancing who cant even dance. Or some wannabee TV star singing Justin Timberlake or Wannabee rappers. We have a culture deeper than that in the philippines. We fought for a our independence from Japan and America, but guess who is resorting to be like America with a person who cant sing singing American songs, and wanting to be considered Asian but not looking at the whole spectrum, When the Japanese killed many of us. If that is how you guys think in the philippines. WOW! Thank god I am a Fil-Am. Lets be thankful that there is still many of us of PURE filipino blood. Unfortunately, look at our brothers, the Hawaiians, through westernization they are losing their land and true bloodline. Oh yeah, BTW, I am of Batangueno and Kampangpangan heritage, just to let you all know.

Filipinos are Asian, racially (together with Thais, Malaysian, Japanese, etc)...

Filipinos are Pacific Islanders, geographically (because the location of most of the islands are on the pacific)...

Filipinos are Hispanics, culturally (we are part of Hispanidad)...
