Half man-half horse in phillippines? |
okay this is kinda freaky. i had been to a long vacation in the phillippines... urdaneta, pangasinan to be exact. i got really sick the first 4 days so i stayed home at my grandma's house? one night, it was raining and there was lightning and thunder. my grandma has a a huge garden in front of her house. i was looking out the window, admiring the rain and lightning flashes.. in the garden i see a half man-half horse looking creature looking straight at me. i was home alone and i freaked out. almost s*it my pants. then a week later, i stayed at the mayor resort with my family. we were sleeping in his guest house in the back. i was taking a shower and decided to look out the window to look at the beach, eventhough it was night time. i saw light from a boat or something afar and it flashed in my face and i saw the same creature looking dead at me. i freaked out again. where can i find info on this half man-half horse? i heard it's a filipino myth... filipinos let me know! |

well it is commonly known as a centaur, but here in Philippines it is famous as Tikbalang who is said to lurk in the mountains and forests. It is generally described as a tall, bony humanoid creature with disproportionately long limbs, to the point that its knees reach above its head when it squats down. It has the head and sometimes feet of an animal, most commonly a horse. It is sometimes believed to be a transformation of an aborted fetus which has been sent to earth from limbo.
Superstitions
Tikbalangs are said to scare travelers and lead them astray. Tikbalangs play tricks on travelers such that they keep on returning to an arbitrary path no matter how far he goes or where he turns. Supposedly this is counteracted by wearing one's shirt inside out. Another countermeasure is to ask permission out loud to pass by or, not to produce too much noise while in the woods in order not to offend or disturb the tikbalang.
A common saying has it that rain from a clear sky means may kinakasal na tikbalang. (Filipino, "a tikbalang is getting married".) This was most likely derived from a similar Spanish proverb that claimed a witch was getting married when there was rain on a sunny day. |

Tikbalang
Main article: Tikbalang
A Tikbalang.
A Tikbalang.
Tikbalang or tigbalang (demon horse) is a half-man and half-horse creature. It has a horse's head, the body of a human but with the feet of the horse. It travels at night to rape female mortals. The raped women will then give birth to more tikbalang. They are also believed to cause travelers to lose their way particularly in mountainous or forest areas.[1] Tikbalangs are very playful with people, and they usually make a person imagine things that aren't real. Sometimes a Tikbalang will drive a person crazy. Legends say that when rain falls while the sun is shining, a pair of Tikbalangs are being wed. Since horses only arrived in the Philippine archipelago during the Spanish invasion (thus, the borrowed term 'kabayo'), there is a theory that the image of a half-horse, half-man creature was propagated by the conquistadors to keep the natives afraid of the night. There are stories claiming that the Tikbalang are actually half-bird, half-man creatures, much like the Japanese tengu. |

Hello first answerer,
centaur has the upper body of a man and lower body of a horse
thats Greek,
Tikbalang is otherwise, the upper part is of horse and the half of a hairy man.
and this is Filipino.
That myth existed long before the Filipinos knew the existence of Greek mythology |

Sounds like my scarey story I use to get people to pee in their pants around some campfire in the dead of the night. I don't tell them what I see, though. I just suddenly go stiff with a look of terror in my eyes. More scarey that way. Haha.
You probably saw Michael V, a.k.a. "Bitoy"--he's a local comedian--dressed up as a mythical TIKBALANG (half man, half horse) about to do a sequence of YARI KA ("you've been had" in English) a practical joke featured on BFV--Bitoy's Funniest Videos. They've just featured that particular practical joke on Channel 7 last Sunday. Scared the s**t out of the victim, a lovely young lady, who, of course, lost all her glamor in the process.
The kapre is different from the tikbalang. The kapre is a giant who smokes a big cigar and usually lives under a balite tree. A tikbalang has the stature of a human, and stands upright like one. Only, it has the legs and tail of a horse. Only two legs, unlike a centaur, which has four, and which stands on all fours. Something like the Greek god Pan, with the torso of a human but with the legs of a horse rather than of a goat.
Actually we see centaurs and Pan in the Philippines more often then tikbalangs. |

Its a filipino myth "TIKBALANG" half man and a half horse., some says it really exist but for me since in my childhood untill now, I never seen anything or just one of freaky creatures so that why I dont still believe unless I saw them: here is some description of this creatures: the tikbalang is not described as a frightening creature of the night. "Just like a human being, the tikbalang is capable of getting bored and sad when he is all alone. Like a child, he longs for playmates. He tries to imitate and get along with other evil spirits but he just ends up harming himself". try to google it im sure you will find some articles about this weird creatures.
Thanks for the points.. |

Yeah man that freaky but it could be your mind playing tricks on you. When I go back to Mexico all my family is always scared of the chupacabra and one night we where outside and we heard noise and than they said they saw the chupacabra. I saw it but it just look like some other animal but my stupid cousins where like, " That was it. That was it!" And hyped everyone up and they also said they saw it. Meanwhile i was looking at the same damn direction and damn animal and i was pretty sure it wasnt the chupacabra. People always exaggerate thing because of fable or story they heard. |
