many times....i go back each year to visit my family, sometimes twice in a year. but don't go by what you hear from others. since your parents been there before, ask them the feelings and safety. are they comfortable to go back? since its early, try to see if you can make friends with younger generation there to make you at ease and you won't be lonely or out of place. we are friendly people and always hooked up with new trends, you'll be shocked to see their new toys, i mean their cells is out of this world, they are ahead of us. they can even text in the dark, or while you are talking, their fingers are working. maybe you will learn some tricks how they do that.
i wish i can go back during december, that is the festive time of the year. i wish i can exchange my vacation with other but i know its very hard. also, the ticket, you have to get that ahead of time, probably a year in advance?
in my family, (im married to a foreigner), im the only one who always go back there cause of the bad news about the country. but whenever i go back, i always have a blast cause i travel all over the beautiful places, visits resorts, try singing in a karaoke bar, watch those tear jerkers movie, shop in greenhills mall and enjoy the famous beaches.
since you are with your parents, try to check out cebu-plantation bay, the shrine of infant jesus, bohol-chocolate hills, baguio- the grotto, pma, camp john hay, pangasinan-our lady of manaoag, beaches in la union, laguna and cavite..maybe by that time, the bikol region will be okay after the eruption of one of the dormant volcano in the region but not the mayon volcano...how about the banaue rice terraces, its cooler climate than baguio now these days. i recommend to dine out in gerry's grill better than max restaurant, you will thank me later...
so much for that, im feeling homesick again. maybe i'll go back this coming october instead of june? but forget about me, check out web site for the philippines tourism and read it for yourself.
check out the lantern on x'mas, carolers and the feast on all the houses that you visit...but don't forget to stop by on any churches and make a wish.... |

Yes, I am there right now and it is great. The people are nice and the women are beautiful. The traffic sucks and right now is the rainy season, but I think it is cool as hell. I would definately return. |

I am a filipino and i ve never been so proud of my country more than i do now. Many stupid news have been reported against my country but most have been sensationalized. Look at New york or Chicago. Crime rate is high yet people still go there because it is a beautiful place. Crime happens anywhere. it has become a way of life and if we think about it all the time, we may miss beautiful chances of seeing great places like the Philippines.
To answer your question, December is a beautiful time to go there. It's already the Christmas season. Actually christmas starts in the country just after august. As long as there is the "ber" in the month name, its already christmas. Trafic is terrible during that time through but its just few of the hassles you may encounter.
Shopping or malling is one of the favourite past time of the majority of manila residents. SM is the premier mall in the country. SM is everywhere in the country where the biggest is the SM Megamall and of course the largest in Southeast Asia, SM Mall of Asia.
Night life is pretty exciting too. Bars are scattered everywhere in manila from concert bars, karaoke bars to comedy bars. By the way, Intramuros can be a beatiful place to go to coz it has so many things to do there. There are free concerts and activities going on there every night.
December may be pretty cold for most locals, still it is warm for foreigners from the west so some of them are still going to beach resorts which i guess is best because its not the peak season so its much cheaper.
Well, there are still so many things to do there. when you're there, enjoy your stay. |

I love my native country...it's an unconditional love. For you who seems to be not native...I give you this warning: you are in for a major culture shock. You must ...and I say it again: YOU MUST be open- minded....tough to the bone...tolerant...never be a snob...never insult anyone...smile even when you don't feel like it...try to be genuine in your friendliness no matter what...never talk bad about us Filipinos, because most of us speak more than one language-( I don't care where you come from- someone might speak your language)...because although we have more than 90 percent Christians...most people are very proud about being who they are and will not tolerate an insult. |

im a filipino and i'm proud of my country
yeah..december is the best month to go there because of the festivals, parades and masses there
you'll get to know that filipino's really really love the Church(God) and also january 1 is cool too because of the fireworks and summer(march-june) in summer, there are a hundred celebration of fiestas...where people will invite you to their houses to eat even if they don't know you....yeah! we are hospitable and the beaches are great especially in boracay ,batangas and palawan
don't forget the biggest mall in asia w/c is the SM Mall Of Asia
enjoy! |

i grew up there, and i really miss it! haven't been there for 6 years :(. anyways, decembers are really nice in the philippines! beware though, for the real santa doesnt visit this country. they have a lot of beautiful natural resources. i've been to a lot of rivers and beaches and the water is so crystal clear! on the beach, you can even see the reef cuz its like right next to the shore! i forgot which beach that was though. no need to worry about the natives not understanding you. english is like their second language. a lot of the people are very well educated, especially the children. nearly all filipinos are christian, i havent heard of one who wasnt. they have some neat stuff and sweet sweets that are not so expensive. trust me, you'll LOVE the food. You're so lucky to be able to go there! |

Yup, you will like it. Be prepared to see some devastating poverty. It's disturbing. Overall, it's a great place if you stay in the cities. The malls are awesome and the beaches are so pristine and beautiful except for Manila Bay. |

Yes. I'm here everyday, except when I'm abroad. But kidding aside, you chose the best time to be here in the Philippines. Especially if you try the simbang gabi or the midnight mass (it's actually at 4 a.m.). Visit Policarpio St. in Mandaluyong. All the houses in that street have the best Christmas lights this side of earth, and also go to Baywalk in Manila (I live in a condo fronting Manila Bay) and enjoy the famous Manila Bay sunset! Enjoy! (And please spend your dollars). |

I have been to the Philippines 15 times in the past 18 months.
The Philippines is a beautiful country full of beautiful people, but unfortunately the country is poor and many people live in poverty which is very sad to witness.
Like any country in the world you are unfamiliar with remember to keep your wits about you at all times, dont carry too much cash and valuables, and dont draw too much attention to yourself and you will be fine.
Enjoy your trip and December is a great time of the year to visit. |
