Yah, of course, that's my daily means of transportation going to our office. You've got to try riding one when you come to our humble country. It's a unique experience! |

If you got used riding your own car then you'll feel stupid riding those jeepney. They're not safe, no one is using seat belt and they're over crowded but it's a cheap mode of transportation. |

You know, I actually prefer to ride a jeepney (or trike) than my own car! It's just a pain in the @ss to drive in Phils. I rather just hop into a jeepney (or trike) and get off where I want to be. It beats driving in a car, getting stressed out while driving, roaming around trying to find an open parking space, then you park and come back and you see that someone or something just scratched the sh!t of the side of your car. |

In the city you really gotta know where you are going in a Jeepney because you face inside and sometimes cannot see the outside of the jeepney well. There are rarely scheduled stops so if you are passing something you gotta know what it looks like from the corner of your eye and get out fast. |

Yes. It's just a bit more comfortable than riding a tricycle. Being a foreigner and 5'11", I banged my head on the ceiling with every pothole we fell into (and there are millions of those).
In case you don't know it, jeepney is a 60 year old design, underpowered, smoky, noisy, and dangerous (the door is facing the cars behind you) so if you fall out, you're a gonner. If you need one, just stick out your hand wherever you are - usually in the middle of a busy intersection, and they'll stop. Oh, and no air conditioning... just open windows with curtains to keep out the rain and pollution. I've seen them used as school buses with kids hanging on to the back and sides, and as a truck with insides full of coconuts and people sitting on the roof (hey, you put the important stuff inside - right)?
Most jeepneys have tons of pictures and signs all over, usually you'll find a sign saying "God's gift". |

Of course. They are one of the cheapest and easiest ways to get around. I also have my own private one that's mainly used for family gatherings or when my friends from the states come to town. |

Yes, just 3 days ago in Manila! It was so much fun!! I was trying to get to SM Mall of Asia from MRT Station Taft, got on the wrong Jeepney and had a blast getting lost in Pasay City. Hopped off at an LRT Station went to MRT Taft again and then on to the correct Jeepney. They packed us in tight (literally) and it was not as fun. You give your money (7 pesos 50 cents) to the passenger next to you, say "bayad," and they'll pass it along to the driver. If you overpaid, your change will come back to you through the hands of the other passengers. And No, they will not, absolutely not, steal your money.
Here's the kicker: there are no other tourists! you're hanging with the peep's!!! poor and professional alike. |
