no. my name doesn't sound Hispanic. but they think sometimes I'm Hispanic because i have brown skin and long black hair.
my friend told them once that i can;t be Hispanic because I'm not fat. it was rude of her to say it but at least it shut them up.
that was in college. |

Magandang gabi! Several Filipinos work for me on board my ship. A few of them have Hispanic surnames. Whenever the ship is in a port in a Spanish-speaking nation, the guys are always mistaken for Hispanics, until they start speaking Tagalog or Ilocano! :-o |

I think a lot of Filipinos get that (especially in Texas, right?)because the complexion doesn't look Asian. Same with the name. Many are Spanish sounding.
Don't worry about it. I think it is more of a Texan thing than anything. I am white and people talk to me in Spanish like it is nothing. |

Yes my maiden surname is Ponferrada which sounds Spanish. But when they see me personally they conclude immediately that I am not. My complexion is brown and I stand 5 feet only. |

funny enough my husband always gets mistaken for philipino and he is 100% mexican and proud of it... and his name is Jose :) so funny enough he gets mistaken for philipino all the time... maybe because he wears glasses and has straight black hair like Mario Lopez.. :) and he is not the "mexican streotype" he's also extremely smart which sadly is not the sterotypical things for mexicans.... don't worry if your not mexican and mexicans ask you if your latina.... just know it's a compliment they're trying to tell you. theyre just trying to relate. :) |

You know it! We get that a lot of that here in Houston, TX...but my crazy cousin would not let it slide. She goes lengthily explaining that she is Filipina and that her country is the Philippines and that's in Asia and that Filipinos speak English very well and some Spanish too, in addition to our national language, Pilipino. Yes, all that!
And you, Inday....you are my crazy cousin!!! lol
